Question FPS help (Condemned 2 and Dark sector related)

I'm just bad at FPS ... I nearly finished Medal of honor 1 on PS1, did 2/3 of Killzone until most guys throw grenades and kill you in one time ...
Not being familiar with these games : do you have to do and re-do and re-do a stage to know exactly where opponents are and move? do the weapons getting better help you survive? do you have to play "commando"? (= stay hidden, shoot a guy very fast and then hide again?)

I did the Condemned 2 demo, it seemed different to me as melee is an important aspect (parry, counter, combos), but there's some shooting it seems. Is there a lot of enemies at the same time? or just 2 or 3 you have to be intelligent to get into contact to kill them? It seems you can deactivate the reticle in the options, how do you aim then?

I'm interested in Dark Sector too ... i heard it plays like Gears of War, but for me Gears of War is a FPS where you see part of the character but you still look only the center of screen = reticle to aim at enemies ... or is there no reticle and only guessing the trajectory like in Gauntlet, Dark alliance, Darkstone, Untold legends? I'm quite good at these last games.

Just get Call of Duty 4, Resistance, and Orange Box. All the FPS youll ever need, not to mention Portal is fun as shit. And the crawler bugs in Resistance are like my favorite game enemies ever.

Resistance is the easiest of the 3 I think. Basically it throws more and more enemies on the screen at once, faster. But it never gets TOO difficult.

The campaign on COD4 gets difficult near the end, especially on high difficulties. But this just makes the enemies smarter, and tougher, not really more enemies. The online play is the best out for PS3 atm.

Orange Box is pretty fun. If you ever played Team Fortress online, there is Team Fortress 2 included with this. Cel shaded shoot em up fun. Portal is puzzle solving, pretty fun. It won game of the year from a couple places.

Fps's are games that if you never played are very difficult, but give enough time and you will get better.

You will not be a master overnight.

The use of controlling pressure, and speed on the thumbsticks is very important, too much and you will miss your target.

Reaction, instincts, these will slowly need to be built up inside you, over time they will start to form and take shape.

So let the glory and victory be yours.

^^^^ What he said.

It just takes a really long time to get 'good' at FPS. I feel like I'm just now getting into a groove of where I feel comfortable in most matches and I've been playing them forever (of course, it could just be the game I'm in atm, Rainbow Six).

COD4 was easy to play through and beat, even on Veteran. But, for some reason, I still can't compete well in the 'run and gun' style of it's online multiplayer. I think I'm just too old to handle that level of 'twitch' anymore. So, in that sense, I'm not always comfortable/confident in matches. I hate being the guy with the high rank (because I play a lot) that still dies a ton because the game is more twitchy.

As a result of all of this, I am much more amiable to coop style play online now for ranking up and style points or whatever. Coop is totally my bag. Versus modes are quite difficult for me to compete with the kids on twitch. I do well on Terrorist Hunt in RB6V2, for example, but usually end up in the middle somewhere on Team Deathmatch. Story mode I simply own. The TDM kids never keep up with me in coop story modes.
