I bought a Monster HDMI Cable at Best Buy ($150). The guy showed me a few cables. he said and showed me how some don't do 1080p. Only one cable Monster makes does 1080p. My question is, is this true? Aren't all HDMI cables he same and can do 1080p?

Gawd, no. Go to monoprice.com. Get a 6-foot HDMI cable for under US$10. Return the Monster cable and buy yourself something else from the change. Or just keep it in the piggy bank.

Of course he does! Best Buy is in business to make a profit, and boy . . what a profit on Monster HDMI Interconnects. My company sells HDMI Cables from $59.99 up, so the site recommended above for that person inquiring makes alot of sense. Personally, I bought there as well for my system!!!

Thanks guys. I figured it was a scam. I never buy monster cables. Never bought an HDMI cable either. Didn't know the truth about them. So I will return it and get another cheaper one if monoprice had them in stock...
![]() NEVERMIND. I GOT A 6FT... THANKS AGAIN. Last edited by Hakai; 12-13-2006 at 12:38 AM. |

Monoprice, ramelectronics, bluejeancables, some down-to-earth businesses who have their engineering straight and don't rip you off in the process.

Yes all hdmi will carry 1080. However the quality of the cable does in fact make a difference. I sell these cables for a living and have seen many more than most people get to in action.
I also believe that hdmi cables, out of all of them, probably make the smallest difference in picture quality from one to another, but there is still a difference. (analog(RCA audio and component video) and speaker cables probably have the 2 greatest impacts) I agree that you should spend something on cables, yes better is better, but you have to match your budget to the system as a whole.(check out Audioquest, if I didn't see a difference i wouldn't have bought them for myself!!!) What I can tell you is that HDMI cables can act very strange. I have seen many of them short out, dont ask me cause I dont know the technical reasons behind it but some of them come back dead after my installers go out. Also the quality and durability of the terminal points and their soldering or connection quality will make a difference down the road. Monster is probable overpriced for their performance overall, but they are all covered for life, no questions. Also I have had no problems with Monster cables being defective compared to my Acoustic Research or other brands. I do sell a lot of my Acoustic Research brand cables because I would rather see people make an investment in better equipment than have them spend a little extra in their cables, but this is not right for some others. Just so you dont all think that salesman are scumbags. lol. Last edited by i want HD movies; 12-22-2006 at 08:20 AM. |

For short runs, any HDMI cable should be fine unless it is defective. I have Monoprice 6 ft HDMI cable and it works fine. I got it shipped around $10.

My favorite cable vendor on the web is Cable & Connector Technologies out of Dayton, Ohio which sell a variety of cables including HDMI.
Prices for HDMI cables are: 6-ft $12.25 10-ft $15.00 15-ft $38.43 Here's their link: http://www.callcct.com/Shop/HDMI-Cables Try and find HDMI cables in a retail store for these prices! |

Cable build is one issue, but don't let anyone convince you that at 10 feet there is any difference in performance from a $7 cable to a $500 cable when it comes to HDMI.
Digital realm, zereos and one. It either works or it doesn't. HDMI allows for no more than 1 pixel loss per billion pixels, which means even at 1080p/60fps that's one pixel every 20+ seconds. http://pcworld.about.com/magazine/2309p111id121777.htm |

If you can stand the wait a bit...
I'd check into Blackbox and order cables from them. They'll even do custom cables for you if you need them. I've used them for many systems and even massive installations over the past 25+ years. I've NEVER had a problem with any cable I've bought from them. |
