I'm sure this has been asked before, but I really can't find any info. My question: Is there going to be a new PS3 model that is equivalent to the 60g coming out anytime soon?
I've read here and there about a 120 or 160 but can't find any spec details. My main concern is BC. I own a 60g now and would like a 2nd PS3 but it has to be able to play PS1 & PS2 games. I own maybe 60 or so older games and want to play them on both PS3's. I have a PS2 up front that I could continue to use if no new models are going to support full B/C, but would really like the simplicity of using one unit(that and the wireless BT controllers will allow me to install it high up in my cabinet). Thanks |

It should be noted that the MGS unit is most likely the old 80gb, which is not *exactly* the same featureset of the 60gb unit. The BC is there, but it's not as full as the 60gb unit. I don't think there is much of a difference (maybe 2-3% of games?) but that may be an issue.

Unless the OP is talking about the European 60 GB, but then I don't think Europe is getting the same MGS bundle we are. To answer the original posters question, Sony has started to admit that they've noticed people want to be able to play PS2 games on their PS3, so they're planning on doing something about it. We're not entirely sure what that is yet, but there's probably going to be some sort of software PS2 emulator that works on all PS3 models, since Sony has started talking about PS2 downloads on PSN. It'll probably only work for a few games at first though. I don't even know if they're going to bring back the 80 GB model's partial BC outside of the MGS bundle. |

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the new 80g is gonna be the way to go. I wish it had all the B/C features of the 60 though. Hopefully Sony gets on top of the BC thing. It's a big deal to me.
I guess I'll have to keep the PS2 for now. Thanks |

some titles run on the 80 but not the 60, so you should check your compatibility guide on the playstation site. us.playstation.com to verify which one better serves you, a example do a search for summoner, according to the guide, summoner 1 works on the 80gig and will not load on the 60 gig, but summoner 2 works on the 60gig but not the 80gig.. Interesting aye? Course that was a while back. |
