Default Quick help needed - PS3 frozen on boot

Urgent help needed here, guys.

Just turned the PS3 on, and its frozen on start up. Green light is on, but the system isn't responding. There's no video. The sixaxis was flashing while looking for a signal, but never acquired one. Hooked it up manually via USB and pressed the PS button. Lights are now all off.

Holding down the power button isn't turning off the system either - I'm going to have to flip the switch in the back.

Just wondering if its safe to do so?

Thanks. I actually got it to turn off by holding down the switch for about 15 seconds after letting the system sit for a few mins.

I guess you could say the PS3 makes me nervous, since I might have bricked my first one doing something similar.

Glad you got it fixed. Typically a hard reset will fix most minor issues/freeze issues. Flip the switch in the back off, and then hold the front power button until you get 3 beeps. If the problem persists, do a hard reset immediately followed by a full system format.
