Default Samsung 40'' or a sony 40''

I'm clueless about this hdtv, blu ray stuff, lol but with some reasearch atleast from what i've found and my budget... the 40'' 1080p tv from sony or samsung are great. Any body have any suggestions on which to get or what to look out for? Also should you get warranty with these tvs? thanks

i absolutely love my samsung 40" i have the 4066f from best buy! Has 15000:1 contrast ratio and hands down one of the best hd pics available and it supports hdmi version 1.3!

I wrote a review on it at epinions, stop by and have a read and see what i had to say about the set!

I don't think you can go wrong with either, go with whichever is cheaper I guess.

Sony and Samsung both make some fantastic LCDs. Which models are you considering? What is your budget? That will help people give you some recommendations.

Which Sony 40"? Some are 720p, but if you are talking the XBR4, it is excellent.

Default Well..

If you found a sale on the sony make sure it's the 10 bit screen and not the 8 bit. It makes a big difference. Samsung is nice too so i guess you should just grab the most quality for the least amount of cash and you should be happy.

It's not that small. It all depends on the room in which you are using it.

I have a 40 inch Samsung 71 Series 1080P and absolutely love it. Works great as a PC monitor as well. As a matter of a fact I'm using it right now.

Go to Crutchfield.com and put "40" TV" in the search box.
Sony has at least 5 series of flat panel TVs, lowest to highest:
S series, V series, W series XBR4, XBR5.
Without knowing the models it's like asking "how high is up?"

Default Can't go wrong with Sony

Sony is a bit more expensive, but I have never had a bad experience with their products. Any model with "XBR" in the model number is supposed to be top-of-the-line.

If you plan to develop a full home theater with Sony products, their receivers come with a remote that can operate everyting (no more after-market universal remotes!)

THe Samsung 71F series with 120mhz are pretty sweet...got mine for 1799.00 from Best Buy, I had them price match Circuit City so I could get the reward zone points....has a pretty good picture, 25000:1 contrast ratio, and game mode which is nice if you have any gamers....

I went to Circuit City to buy the XBR4, but after about three hours of comparing it to the 71series Sammy, I went home with the Samsung. Neither were calibrated, but the guys let me adjust the settings myself. Both had excelent picture, but the Samsungs black levels were better, and the motion seemed to have less blur.

As long as we're talking about places to buy, I actually found the best price on Amazon when I bought mine, if you can wait until they have one in their own warehouse, you'll get free white-glove delivery. I saved over $2000 buying all system components from Amazon. Sam's Club also has very good prices on certain models.

They're the same screen if we're talking LCD and you're comparing like sets. It really doesn't matter.

I think you should do research on those 'crazy features'. Some of them (like 120mhz) can really make sports look outstanding. A lot of people rush out and buy and then find out about things that are available on some units and not the one they bought causing remorse (sometimes). I think it would be worth it to read the HDTV section of the forum and take the info you get there and see it first hand at the store.

I think it's a big purchase that can last you a while. Might as well make the most educated decision possible.

Samsung is great, there really isn't much difference between Samsung and Sony when it comes to HDTV's. The only real difference how it looks when it's off. I was sold into buying a Samsung just because it looked so sexy. I love the piano black finish. It matches my PS3 nicely.

From what I hear, Sony and Samsung use basically the same panels in their LCD's, but I went with the Sony, XBR4!
Watching Blu-rays on this thing is a religious experience...
