I can't find a single reason why I'd care about BD-Live. Then again, it's hard to find much about the features at all. I haven't rented Saw IV yet or any other BD-Live disc yet, but most of my research has shown a very small, specific set of features for 2.0. As always, they say that ambiguous "and more" when hyping the set, but I can't really imagine why web interactivity is important when it has to be gimped to be usable by a blu-ray remote/PS3 controller.
I imagine that most non-16-year-old-girls don't watch a movie and squeal "oh my God I need that for my ringtone!" Most extras aren't worth watching, and I don't want to play some trivia game. The movie, quality commentary tracks, production stuff, and deleted scenes- that's all I really care about. So, is all this emphasis on 2.0 capable players just a bunch of marketing smoke? It seems like getting a 1.1 capable player in the next upcoming months would be a real value. I currently give BD-Live 3 Indifferent Shrugs out of 5. |

Saw IV has some cool making of features incorporated into BD Live. They show you how they designed and made the traps and gadgets

I am more interested in the improvements to speed that will come with new players, and will probably a get a 2nd or 3rd generation BD-Live player for that reason. And even then, my TV et al is on the wrong side of the room to be wired.

Im with you Blinkman. The only special features i ever watch are on movies that were inspired by something in real life like based off of a comic book or a real life event. With The Aviator the extras on that movie were more enjoyable than the movie itself IMO.

I'm sure people will say "get the latest movie trailers instead of old ones" etc. or you can have an option to buy merchandise or link to an internet movie database. Or "download these subtitles or other extras that they hadn't thought of when the disc was released".
But generally I think there's not much you couldn't do by putting things on the disc itself (and trailers or other extras will generally be a lot better quality if put on the actual discs - you could even copy from the discs to other storage using managed copy etc. later when that happens if you wanted). |

it has a lot of potential. Originally, Blu-ray was going to be released Full profile (2.0), but because of the DUD they had to rush and bring in 1.0. So this is how it was supposed to look.
It's not why do we need this? It's more like "now that we have it, what can we do in the future?" More titles will incorporate new BD Live features... It should be interesting. Put it this way. It isn't hurting anything. Why complain just to complain? It's making Blu-ray complete. What's the problem? |

I would withhold judgement until there are more releases with BD-Live. There may be some creative studios who can put this to good use.

The priority with me has always the enjoyment of the movie in itself. The extras in bonus view, web surfing, directors commentaries, deleted scenes, etc... are just that, extras. Some are possibly enjoyable. Others are just a waste of time (and disc space).
I'm more anxious to see more titles released that I want to spend my time watching vs. worrying what kind of online features they might have. |

Personally, I can't even imagine going out to buy a new player just to get 1.1 much less 2.0. For me, I usually just pop in a disc, select the preferred audio format and then play the movie. Rarely do I watch any of the features or trailers. But I can't see how it is a bad thing for those who do enjoy that sort of content.
