Default PS3-HDMI>Receiver>Pre Out>Pre Amp/Amp combo

I want to buy a ps3, and want to use my existing preamp/amp combo to drive the left and right main speakers. I want to buy the least expensive receiver than can intake dd/dts and send the l/r analog signal out the preouts to my separates. Is that possible? Some have said that HDMI will only come out analog at the speaker terminals; not the pre-outs. Is that true?
Another option would be to use the fiber out to a receiver and send the l/r main out the preouts. Is that possible?
