Question Taking back BDP-1000

Question.

I have a Samsung BDP-1000 player. I have the 4-year service plan on it from Best Buy (until November 2010).

It works just fine (does what the player is supposed to do). However, it is slow, and seems to constantly jam up on any sort of Java/Slideshow items (even the fancy "Loading" animations). Yes, I have done the firmware updates. I gather this is just a limitation of the player.

However, I would like to upgrade my machine, and I gather that the BDP-1000 is discontinued (correct me if I am wrong). Faster load times and less stuttering with Java / animations would be a plus. Some of the animated menus take 2 minutes to come up.

My question is this:

Is there any good way that I can return this player to Best Buy, and get credit towards a different Blu-Ray player? Can any of you think of anything?

I think if I just take it in, Best Buy will throw me another BDP-1000, which is not what I want.

I'll hang onto it if I have no other ideas, it's not bad (it is Blu, so it can't ever be bad). I just don't want to buy another Blu-ray player, since there is nothing "officially" wrong with my current one.
