Default 40 gig question

I have a 60 gig which is kind of loud and i was thinking about getting a 40 gig because they're quieter i know that the 40 doesn't support SACD but can i still use a 5.1 or 7.1 surround system with it and will it play dts-hd when the new firmware is released.

Increase audio volume or stop sitting so close too it. I don't hear my 60Gig unless my volume is way way down.

My 60 is well ventilated it was never loud until the firmware for upscaling dvd's was released now it gets to the 3rd fan setting my buddy has a 40 and it's super quiet i want to upgrade my sony receiver with a onkyo 605 but was scared that the 40 wouldn't support true-hd,dts-hd.

The fan speed is only gonna go higher if your room temp is high. A fw update wont do anything for the fan that im aware of. My fan only gets faster once in awhile even if i game 10hrs straight its cool.....I keep a good airflow in my room.

Yeah it could be room temp causing the fans to go on high. The temp here in michigan has been going up and down the last couple of days so i've been having to to turn the heat on some days.

also lay the ps3 flat if you havent already and keep it in a nice open area where it wont get to much dust but have enough space for it to breathe. just some helpful hints if you havent done these already

Not true. If they updated software for the sensor or changed the thresholds that the fan would kick in to a higher mode to protect it from heat, then obviously that firmware change would affect fan speed.

Of course, none of that has been documented by Sony so it's all a guessing game.
