Now if only they can release an uncropped version of the series, currently only Japan has it and it's very very expensive.

I'm in!

I'm of the generation that saw these as a child (well, specifically the TV series). I remember being confused. I knew they weren't real people and I knew they weren't cartoons. At that age, I had no concept of marionettes.

It will be fun to see the films in HD (I have them on DVD).

I've sometimes been tempted by the UK BDs of the series but they are cropped to widescreen...and I can't afford the superior OAR Japanese release.

Now, i saw that both of them are one release.
That means that the set would be more expensive than a single film release?
(I really hope they don't squeaze them in one disc)

They wouldn't really have to squeeze anything. The runtime for both movies combined is about 3 hours which should fit fine on a single disc, even with extras. They still could be on 2 discs, but don't expect it.

Yeah, they are big screen spinoffs of the TV show. I personally prefer the second film, but the first one has Cliff Richard in puppet form performing on the moon! I still have the DVDs which came in a box set which a sheet of fridge magnets. These are a lot of fun, although I can see younger viewers mocking it after having seen Team America.

The MGM DVDs had a commentary track each and numerous featurettes. Hopefully the blus will port them over.

Having said that, I very much doubt that they'll match the Japanese collection in terms of PQ restoration (or audio, or extras).

I'm not familiar with Twilight Time; do they often release old movies like this, and if so, how good a job do they usually do?

Twilight time has nothing to do with the restoration of the films.
They receive the masters from the companies and they do the encoding.
The quality in many of the Blurays is GREAT!

I've never seen these, or even the original series, but it seems right up my alley. I might just blind-buy it, especially hearing that it comes with all the DVD extras, and more.

Oooh, I'm getting all giddy!

I wonder if this will restore the opening credits of Thunderbirds Are Go -they were missing from MGM's DVD IIRC.

Best to watch the series before the films.

I was going to suggest the opposite. Watch the movies as a sampler and if you like them, check out the series.
