Default Dell XPS M1710 Blu Ray Problems

Ok well I own a Dell Laptop and I thought I'd give Blu Ray a try and I picked up a Blu Ray Drive for my laptop. Just the drive no software. Little did I know this would not work. So 3 days later after getting the drive I now have Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra for BD support and HD DVD support. I own an xbox 360 as well and it's HD DVD drive. I tried out the drive on my laptop and it works fine. So why isn't myBlu Ray drive working?

I'm trying to watch the movie Pirates and it just sits there saying Loading in the Pirate Text, and does nothing for 15 mins now. And I bought the disk I'm just having no luck.

Nevermind it is working it just won't play. I tried the other disc which was a bonus blu ray disk and that runs fine. But the actual movie WILL NOT Run on my PC. I don't know what to do.... Reading more on the Web about the problem it turns out that Pirates uses something weird and requires a Firmware Update in order to play correctly. How am I suppose to get that for PC's? My drive is a Panasonic UJ 220 BD RE

Default M1710 Blu-Ray Question

darkloki,

I'm in the UK, saw your post on Blu-ray.com.
I'd really appreciate your help.

I have been trying to purchase a blu-ray drive for my M1710 from Dell UK but they will not sell me the drive and say it's not compatible with my machine.

Did you buy the drive from Dell ?

I have the DVD R/RW drive fitted.
Does the Panasonic UJ 220 BD RE simply plug in in place of the DVD drive (same interface ?)

My spec is:
2.16GHz Processor
2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce Go 7900GS Gfx(HDCP compliant).

Also, where did you get the firmware update for the UJ 220 BD RE ?

Thanks

I bought the drive on ebay, if you need to talk to me directly you can reach me at icegbear19@hotmail.com Here are some link you can get it from on Ebay, you'll need my help to get it to work on your laptop though, lol it's not entirely that easy kinda confusing actually. Pending you getting the drive get back to me on install helps.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Matshita-UJ-210-...QQcmdZViewItem

I only paid 350 for my drive though, through some guy in Minn.

I suggest http://stores.ebay.com/austincomputerparts this store, they sold me my 7950 as I had to upgrade from the 7900 GTX to play blu ray movies. Now I attach my lappie to my Sony Bravia and it's Great looking. Hope this helps.

Ah here is one.. http://cgi.ebay.com/Laptop-Blu-Ray-B...QQcmdZViewItem

Again I paid around 350 380 after shipping, YOU MUST HAVE A 7950 GTX card on your M1710 for this to work right, and pending you getting the drive I'll give you all the software to get this to work a 100+ Dollar Value.

You need the HDCP from Nvidia for this to work out correctly. And I belive in your situation the the GS won't work, you'll have to upgrade to the 7950.

Sorry, this is completely unrelated. Is Sony VAIO AR series have the same problem? I plan to ditch HP and switched to Sony, just because of no blu-ray (in all of its pavilion laptops) and no nVIDIA card (in laptop I want to buy)

Never buy a Sony Laptop. Not because Sony is bad but because they are over pricing their equipment and you'll have bare minimum to run your Blu Ray. Why? More detail in this response?

Well... Sony's go Super cheap on their videocards. Sony laptops are among the most expensive but you're getting screwed over in this videocard section. If you want to do graphical things, or watch Blu Rays, I highly advice you not to buy a Sony Laptop and go with something else. There are other makes out there that offer Blu Ray. But I promise you this, every sony out there provides a next to Crap Video Solution. My current video Solution?

7950 GTX with 512 mb ddr 3 dedicated. At least get 256 dedicated, you'll see it in your blu ray videos. Nobody should disagree with what I just said, lol.

Looks like I'm being BANNED by the admin for saying in the movie section that this whole Blu Ray HD DVD War is stupid, and that people should focus their attention and ideas on other things. So I wont' be here much longer, if you need help visit notebookforums.com and look me out. If I feel nice like I generally am I'll help you guys out, otherwise this forum which has proven to be un-helpful in my uses, can bite me. When they Ban me, oh you can also send me an email if you need further help, good luck.

Seems like you want to be with the tone in a lot of your posts and even your sig.

I don't see the point.

I was just kinda dissapointed with the lack of help this forum offers, as you can see in my thread right here (Re-read through it all), I'm orginally asking for help in here, don't get any, and then now somehow.. .Someway... I'm offering help??? To others??? And then I get banned for saying the Format war is stupid, which it is... Explain that to me. And if they want to ban me over that, I don't have a problem with that all I can go elsewhere, I just feel sorry for the guys in here who needed help.

And what's wrong with my sig? It's wrong to own both of them? Oh No I'm sleeping with the Enemy!!! If I own both why should I care about either format? I'll be adding a PS3 in there come Weds. 2 days from now.

And you figured it out for yourself and fired off some backhand insult to anyone that would read the thread.

And this is a bad thing because?...

So you solved your own problem and now had knowledge to help others.

OH NOES!!!

I don't see the problem.

Um....you're here typing right now.

You're not banned.

It just looks like someone with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove some "point" that no one cares about either way, especially given the context of some of your posts.

I don't care what you do or what you buy and I doubt most others care, either.

Just for the record.

Hmm how about you get out of my thread if you have nothing to post about PC Drives (Can you read? ) , you're clearly off topic, and my orginal final post in this thread was telling others where to get help after I get banned or disappear, until you had to come along and offer what to this thread? Nothing?

Most of your posts around here offer nothing, so why not?

Meh bite me, And you can have your Format War for all I care. I support his thread crapping as long as you let mine slide. I mean that is what you want to do here right? Like I told you you're not going to scare me about this whole banning thing, so go ahead with it if you want. It's not "Chicken Little" btw, I belive it's "your scare tactics aren't working." Do you own Chicken Little In BD format? How is it?
