Default Best A/V receiver under 1k?

Hello fellow Blu-Ray'rs,

I am looking to upgrade my HK AVR430 receiver to something with HDMI support.

I am obviously looking for at least two HDI inputs in the back and would love to have HDMI input up front for my Sont HD camera as well.

Something that will also carry the latest in audio specs would be nice to boot.

I currently have 3 HKs in the house and really do enjoy their sound but they are a nit pricey and the AVR430 has already been in the shop once-thankfully 1 month before the 2 year warranty gave out. Plus I have been reading how others have had some issues with HK as well.

I prefer to stay away from JVC-had a few issues with those .
This will be used for the PS3 (Blu-Ray) as well as SACD playback and of course home theatre.

Anyow, anyone with some good recommendations on a nice A/V receiver under 1k?

Thanks in advan

Try reading up this forum. Start from that post and work your way forward, then to the first post. It'll take you a few hours to read but it'll be worth it especially if you take notes.

If you're in the United States, I saw www.jandr.com have some crazy sales prices on things like the Yamaha HTR 6090 for $699. For all intents and purposes, that machine is a Yamaha RX-v1700 and you'd be hard pressed to find a better bang for your buck overall. It's got HDMI 1.2a and everything you'll need for years to come if you can get past some hype, myths and used car salesmanship.

JR is 100 percent legit and authorized. Give that Yamaha HTR line a serious look but the 6090 is the most loaded one and JR seems to have the best sales prices going right now on that line.

I just ordered The Devil Wears Prada on JR for US$17.99. Yes, that's the preorder price on the BD.

I am tempted to get one, but may wait the year or two for some 1.3 receivers. I see that site now wants to email you the price. Maybe they gone cheaper that $699?

I personally find Denon units the best bang for the buck available out there. You can get a AVR2807, CES Home Audio Product winner for 1099 retail, or the 2307 for 799.99. Both will offer two HDMI in and 1 HDMI out along with 7.1 analog ins for SACD. The HDMI are capable of dvd audio, but to do both you will need the analog ins anyway.

The 2807 not only offers slightly more power, i think 10 watts/ channel, but a lower distortion rate, which along with amps is what really matters. The 2807 goes from +/- .08% in the 2307 to +/- .05% dsitortion.

Check out the Yamaha's mentioned, they do not advertise the distrotion levels on their site last timne i checked. As a reference Most cheap amps(htib systems etc.) are around +/- 1% distortion in full range. that is 1 against .08. This is probably your best measure of sound wuality form an amp.

Make sure that the range given is full range, i.e. 20-20k Hz. Some companies give a distortion at only 1k Hz. That is great if you are listening to a test tone!!! lol.

Good luck.

p/s Amps are very very different. The HTR and RX lines from Yamaha are very different beasts. The RX line has their higher quality, lower distortion, higher current amps. The inputs are similar, but the amps are very different (as are the audio and video processors most likely)
