Tried searching and couldn't find any thread past 2009 discussing the often lamented topic.
So, I hope with input I can compile a list of the more notable problems involving these chunks of plastic or shiny cardboard. Also this is to help clean up some of the clutter in threads and actually talk about the movies. Specific Title Problems BTTF Trilogy -Original release cases are chunky with discs in trays that are hard to remove without proper instructions, thus damaging the discs if not done properly. The tabs do nothing! How its done... [Show spoiler] Star Wars: Saga -Complicated disc removal and discs damaged before being touched, ie pinholes and chipped paint. [Show spoiler] ALIEN Anthology -U.S. release has had problems with its thick digibook-like case. The cardboard slips may scratch discs or tear if done hastily. Current status of the Limited Edition Egg version is unknown. (Help on this?) The Omen Collection -The box is Blu-Ray equivalent of The Trabant, meaning at some time or another it will destroy itself. The packaging is notoriously bad and shipping is guaranteed to flatten it like a pancake. Indiana Jones: Complete Adventures -Most of the jury is still out, but some are saying the discs arrive with problems such as hairs and scuffs. Other have problems removing and placing the discs back into the sleeves. Star Trek: TOS -Internal spines are very easy to break. The Ten Commandments -The Limited Edition set is reported to have a very cumbersome way of removing the DVDs, which can result in damage to the box and discs. Widespread Problems Disney -Newer movies and re-releases tend to stack discs, which may result in unwanted contact. Eco Cases -Flimsy and cheap feeling. Literally has holes, may have inconsistencies in color and the cover can become damaged easily. Digibooks -Many have no specs listed on them other than an easily lost paper held on with weak glue. Differing sizes and names among companies. Steelbooks and IronPack -Lack of info or specs on actual cases, much like a Digibook. Some are reissued without internal artwork. DVD/Blu-Ray -DVD case with both mediums, some older catalog releases were done this way for awhile. May clash with shelf space for leaner Blu cases. those new cases I've seen at a few secondhand shops -They have a darker blue color than normal with a roughly shaped left side. The left corners are sharp and not rounded, it feels cheap. cellophane wrapper sticking to spine -A holdover from the days of DVD, the cellophane sticks in pieces to the spine and is hard to remove without damaging the case. Usually caused by the manufacturer using too much heat. Last edited by Trekkie313; 04-10-2013 at 02:43 AM. |
