Default help picking a receiver

for some reason i cant buy onkyo's from US retailers and have them shipped here (maybe because people aren't dumb and won't buy a 605 for $700 here anyway). but anyways...long story short, i must look for a different receiver (or make a trip to buffalo and buy an onkyo, although now i hear if i bring it here to warranty is void )

so what receiver could i get with similar capabilities as the 605 and as close to the "bang for my buck" as it as well.

im looking at the marantz sr-4002...is this a good option?

any suggestions would be appreciated

(by the way, i have a samsung plasma and ps3 all connected with hdmi)

EDIT: i should probably mention my budget...i will not pay more than $400 for one

If you are set on Onkyo....you might want to take a trip to Buffalo,NY and check out a store called Stereo Advandage. If you are interested you can do a search on them.

The Yamaha that's close to the onkyo 605 is the RV-X663 for 499.99.

Ditto. Though I don't have a problem with Sony audio. But I'd check out the yamahas and sonys. Pioneer, maybe?

With the new PS3 update coming out the v663 should be a perfect mate to it and you will have all of the new audio code.

well if your using the ps3 as a blu ray player you do not need a receiver to decode just handle pcm through hdmi since the ps3 is doing all the decoding its self

if you're fine with Sony, check out the new sony models.

The 720 is out now, the 820 and 920 are coming shortly.

www.sonystyle.com

Of course there's the new Yamaha mentioned and also the Pioneer coming out, but the pioneer will be slightly higher in price as will the Sony 920. I'd guess the Sony 720 and 820 would work for you.

I've had a Pioneer and Sony the Pioneer still works even after 18yrs and the Sony I've had for only a few years and it's back at the repairman for the second time. And well I just picked up the Onkyo 905 and should have it in a few weeks. The Sony works ok until you try to push the volume this one seems to cack out due to heart failure or stroke
