Wait for the new panny 50 or sony saphires. I think Pioneer has a new profile 2 machine, too.

PS3, because it is fully upgadable and one of the fastest loading blu ray players out there.

Now that the PS3 has DTS MA, it's really hard to recommend any other player that's currently out.

Good point, as well. Don't think I've ever had a delay of more than a few seconds.

Depends on your budget, but having said that, the PS3 is a pretty tough act to beat, especially when price is a consideration.

I am a AV Retailer....
As I do not sell PS3 machines I do not profess to be an expert on all the features and benifits of that player.
My first reccomendation would be a short wait for the new Sony BDPS350.
It will be shipped needing a firmware upgrade (that the Sony Rep says will be available as soon as the player hit the stores) that will make it compatable with any and all uncompressed audio formats and Profile 2.0
It is slated to be released at appx $350.00 US

Welcome to the Blu World

Thanks everybody...I don't have a PS at all..LOL...only my HDTV...so this is all new to me..You all rock...

I'm not in much of a hurry to buy one yet so waiting is no problem for me right now..

Do the blu ray players play regular dvd's as well? I have a VERY large collection of those...My mother was confined to a wheelchair so we always bought the dvd's..LOL

Thanks again..I think I'm really going to like this forum.

Absolutely, and they will be upconverted/scaled as well, so they'll be the best that they can look.

Yes Bluray players play standard DVD's
To go 1 step further they are capable of up scaling the video to match your display. (720p, 1080i, 1080p)
Keep in mind that the quality of the upscale will depend on the original transfer quality. Some disks will look much better and others will show little or no improvement.

If you were to guess, when do you think it will be released?

When you are ready to buy find yourself a local retailer who puts service first.
If you go into a store and no one wants to help you other than to hand you a box walk out and keep shopping. Find some one who will take their time with you so you not only know what your getting but why your getting it...
Some advice on hook up and set up are also handy. Ask the salesman if you can call him (her) personally as you are setting this up.
A little good service can go miles
