I have a Mitsubishi 55" rear projection TV. The best connection I can get is by using component cables in either 480P or 1080i. I do not have the ability to connect using a HMDI cable nor can I get 720P resolution. Do you think a Blu-ray DVD player using component cables will be worth my money? The range of players I am looking at are between $200-$250. Any thoughts?

I have an older 65 inch Mitsubishi HDTV sitting in my living room that I have connected to a Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player. It is connected via component cables and it looks great.
I just bought a Sharp Aquos 52 inch 120 Hz LCD HDTV that is sitting in my family room and it is using the same model of Blu-ray player. It looks really good, but I would not hesitate to pick either system to watch a movie on. Right now, the Sharp is the only one that is up and running, because I took all of the speakers off of the Mitsubishi and hooked them up to the Sharp. I intend to buy more speakers real soon for the Sharp and then move the speakers back to the older HDTV. I say go for it. It is well worth it. |

It will definately be an upgrade. Lots of folks frown at 1080i but they'd choose 1080i over 480p anyday! I recently hooked one of the wife's family members tv up to HD cable. All her tv accepts is component and it made everything look 5X better. Make the most of what you have and enjoy!

Yea it would be worth it.
Ive got a buddy with an older sony 1080i/480p output. He has a ps3 and movies look great in 1080i. You would notice a difference. Well worth the money. |

My brother has a WS-48311. Blu-ray and PS3 games look great on it in 1080i over component connections.
I have a WS-43413 which has a DVI input. While the DVI does look a little better than the component inputs on the same source, it's not really a deal-breaker. Get the Blu-ray player. After watching Blu-ray for a few weeks you'll never want to see another DVD. hg |
