Default Updating PS3 to V2.30

Can anyone help me with the following questions?
What is the best way to load V2.30 onto my PS3? I have a 80GB system in the mail, but I have never used or seen the system before. Also what HDMI cable should I use with the PS3? Also is there anything else I should consider doing to the PS3 to make it better when it arrives? Any feedback would be appreciated.

PS3 is updated through the internet connection. I don't know if you can get an update disc from sony or not, but this is how I've always updated mine.

I always use my broadband connection for the system.

Okay...breeeeeeeeeathe.

Everything is fine. The first couple of games you get will give you some of the updates automatically.

Get an acoustic research cable from ebay and DO NOT pay 80bucks at Best Buy.

If you are going to hook your ps3 up to the internet, I believe the update function will take care of everything for you, but that is all in your manual.

If you are NOT going to hook up to the internet then you can download the upgrade to your PC and throw it on a memory stick and the PS3 will find it.

The days of worrying about how to take care of your videogame system are now over my friend. The PS3 will take care of YOU.

It's amazing. Welcome to the revolution.

That is the quickest way of doing it if you don't have yours hooked up to the internet directly. Thats how I have done all of my updates.

If you do not have an internet connection for the PS3, you should be able to download the update from sony on a computer, albeit I dont know how to do this, and then use a media stick to do the install. check out the sony PS3 website to see how that works.

Once you connect the PS3 to the internet (through your wireless network if you have a wireless router or if through a network cable attached to your router) you can just select the "System Update" on the main system menu. Then choose "Via Internet". It's THAT simple! Follow the instructions on the screen and it will be updated in less than 5 minutes.

Has anyone checked to see if it's faster to download the updates to a USB stick and install rather than download through the network?

As far as I can tell the last few SS downloads have maxed out my BB connection so it would only be slower with the extra process copying things across.

I ran myself a little test for the difference in update times...

Downloading from PSN = 13 Minutes 54.2 seconds
Downloading on PC, including disconnecting usb drive and transporting to PS3 = 4 Minutes and 35.2 seconds

Installation = Just at 3 minutes

Time saved using USB method = 7 Minutes 19 seconds

Blue Jeans cable Made in the USA (80%) inexpensive as hell, custom order the length etc. I had Monster, now I have Blue Jeans and I am very pleased! Quick shipping and cheap shipping. Make it a wireless connection, no need to wire it if you have a wireless router.
Regards,
Paul
