Criterion Something Wild (1986)

On May 10, 2011 Something Wild will be release courtesy of the Criterion Collection

Something Wild Blu-ray

Plot Synopsis: Charlie Driggs is a timid New York investment broker who lets himself be abducted during his lunch hour by an attractive nut named Lulu. While drunk, she drives him to a New Jersey hotel for some kinky sex and petty thievery, and later convinces him to accompany her to Pennsylvania and pose as her husband at her high school reunion. More misadventures ensue, and Charlie gradually finds himself loosening up and falling in love, but then the film makes a sudden left turn with the appearance of Ray, Lulu's real husband.

It's an Ok movie, but I wouldn't say it's awesome.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen it but I recall liking it. I don’t remember anything at all about it, just that I enjoyed it.
I’ll check it out if I can get ahold of a copy.

This is my first Criterion purchase. Always loved the movie. I love offbeat 80's comedies and this was a prime example of it (I also hope we'll see "Desperately Seeking Susan" and "Ruthless People" in the near future on BD). Melanie Griffith's choice of film roles has generally been questionable, but along with Working Girl and Body Double, she was GREAT in this.

Add me to the "awesome" pile for the film, I've loved it since the first time I saw it late night on HBO in the early 90's.

Personally I love the ride the movie takes. It starts out as this charming little Desperately Seeking Susan style type of "fish out of water with a wild child" comedy, then when Ray Liotta comes in, it turns into this really dark comedy that you didn't expect from the first 30 minutes.

Coming from a person who lists The Twilight Saga: Eclipse as their favorite Blu-ray. Plus she is a female, so her opinion really does not matter.
(I kid on the second statement)

Another free with ads movie on VUDU. I had never seen this and found it to be a very entertaining movie. The ads aren't ideal but not nearly as obnoxious as I had feared.

You do get to watch in HDX as well.

Just watched this on Vudu from the free section. Definitely a fun little gem that I'd never heard of and this was a surprise to me that it's a Criterion title.

I own this release but still I haven't seen this movie in more than like ten years. I loved it when I first found out about and saw it during my high school years and I think there's some fear that it won't quite hold up for me. But the way that this movie shifts through genre and tone so fluidly, almost unnoticeably at first, was amazing to me. It's something that could be so jarring and really derail a film, but here it was a stylistic choice played successfully and contributed to it being a very fun ride. Even though it was after I had seen Silence of the Lambs, this was the movie that really had me in awe of Jonathan Demme.
At least, that's the way I remember it.

I know this is a super old comment, but dude sounds like a f'in Romulan. (edit: I think I meant Ferengi)

Has anyone picked up the recent German release of this movie? Curious how it compares to the old Criterion.

Watched this tonight and I love this movie. It's just so damn good. I'm surprised it has such little response on here. Definitely one of Demme's best, in my opinion. Griffith, Daniels and Liotta were all outstanding in this.
