Default 2 New Live Action Anime movies

Ok this maybe a little off topic but Viz Pictures is bringing out Death Note live action movie into American theaters at 300 locations on May 20 and May 21st at 7:30pm
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...heaters-in-may

And also Ghost in the Shell will be getting one as well from Dreamworks in 3D. Im not sure if that means 3D characters or actual 3D.

Ghost in the shell, one of my top 10 anime movies, of course the subtitled version. Do not watch the voice over english version, it's awful.

I hope they do this right, it's an adult anime, hopefully they won't turn it into a kids movie.

I love the english dialogues, on ghost in the shell... want I cant stand in some of the subs they used in the 2nd movie... *Japanese singing* WHAT ARE THEY SINGING!!!

nobody knows but particle man.

Sometimes the subs are good and sometimes there not.. some english crews I perfer over there original like blue seed particular, and the english ghost in the shell cast is the voices I hear when I think Ghost in the shell.

To each their own, I can watch some anime in English, but most I just read the subtitles, I guess it's the way it's wired in my head Now, the Ninja Scroll series, the voice overs were great, and of course cowboy bebop is probably the standard that people compare to.

I haven't seen the 2nd Ghost in the shell movie in a very long time, but as I recall I didn't enjoy it as much...

One thing to note, if its in Japaneses you want to turn off the subtitles if you have someone who can actually speak Japaneses in proximity.

You will have to endure hours of them comparing how incorrect the subtitles are from what there saying.

or and if you can read and hear English you never want to put English subtitles on with English sound they never match on any of bandai's work.

Google it, they accidently used the CC track instead of the subtitle track and there is an exchange program

The song still isn't subtitled because Dreamworks (like so many major studios doing foreign films) never requested a lyric sheet, and they just translated the scriptq

Yep, I can confirm that, at least on Paprika, just watched that in English partway and with subtitles...there were differences

Last time i mentioned something of this, I was attacked by many forum members...

It doesnt really terribly bother me, I just assumed thats how they intended it to be viewed it was like a few seconds of sound, never really thought about it being a mistake.

Can't exchange a rental version btw :l lol....

I finally did buy it though, but Wicky you got some tone there are you having a bad day? Here have some cake I find cake to be associated with happy times.

It depends on how the subtitles are done. Mononoke Hime, or Princess Mononoke has two different sets of English subtitles. There is one for the English dub, which entirely ruins the feel of the story, and then there is the direct Japanese translation which makes the movie so much better.

On the subject of Death Note, how are they going to bring this film to theaters without thoroughly editing it? It was four hours long!
Good movie though. It is very interesting.

EDIT: Oh, it would probably help for me to actually read the article. Two movies.

Cool beans. I hope they can pull it off better than the live-action Cromartie High School though. The gorilla was a cheesey rental quality Halloween costume and the Hayashida character didn't even have a purple mohawk. Meh.

Seriously, I have put up with the incessent remake of Japanese live action films in the western world. Some are good, some are OK, some are poor. But to attempt to start screwing with anime classics is nearly getting to me. What next? Cowboy Bebop with Adam Sandler as Spike, Vin Diesel as Jet, Lindsay Lohan as Faye, and Elijah Wood as Ed.

I'd love to see a live action Robotech Macross along the same vein as Transformers as far as visual effects, but without the cheese factor. I'd also pay my hard earned dollars to see a director tackle Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and give it the same visual and emotional treatment as Lord of the Rings. If Peter Jackson was ever a fan of this old anime TV series he could make it into a 3 part live action movie epic. I wouldn't care if he took liberties on trivial matters such as the Star Force uniform design or the look of the Gamalons and their vessels as long as the general design of the Yamato remained intact. I'm going to have to write him a letter.

I don't think you ever want to read the live action scripts for Yamato. Disney has had the rights for over a decade

Tobey MacGuire is supposed to play Hikaru in a Macross movie, we'll see if it ever gets off the ground

I didn't realize a script existed let alone the fact that Disney owns the rights. Where can I read the scripts? Judging from what you're saying it sounds like it's been butchered.

Nevermind. I found the script.

I'm not a fan of anime, but I do love Akira. I can't wait for the live action version of that one to be released.

I would love to see Disney/Walden Media with John Lasseter at the helm try and tackle Spirited Away for a live action movie. Could be quite interesting if they left everything entact.
