Angry Rotel.........Are you out there ?

I bought a great Rotel unit. However, after I paid for it, I found out that ....It will not decode HD Audio ? And by the way there is no street date for a unit that WILL decode HD Audio. That is why I am thinking going to Marantz I know they are both GREAT ! But who wins !

well, what features does it (Rotel) have?

You can still get HD audio without the Receiver having to be the one able to decode, you can let the player decode. Just a thought...Multichannel Analog.

So the Rotel might still be of some use?

I wish. Since I have the PS3 it will not allow me to bitstream. I have been on the phone with Rotel who by the way also makes the B&W speakers. And the dealer, that I bought it from and they said that Rotel, in all their "glory "MIGHT " have something by 4th quarter this year.

Oh well, I will always suffer from "upgrade -its"

Now I can see the light. I know nothing and YOU...... know something. Is there a way I can get HD Audio using my PS3 or will I have to get a NEW set up? Rotel HDMI is just a switch. I still need to run optical for sound. The true said reason form me post here

What Rotel do you have? I've got an older Marantz that doesn't have HDMI, but I'd love a Rotel..... Send me a PM if you want to sell it. Rotel makes very nice stuff, and they do sound great with the B&Ws (I am also waiting on a Rotel with HDMI, but I have a basement system I need to upgrade too, so you can never have too much nice gear! )

I was told they have the same board etc.... so I think they fall under a common parent company.

EDIT

From Wikipedia...

Quote:
B&W is part of the B&W Group Ltd, which also includes Rotel and Classé audio (midrange and high-end, respectively). B&W previously offered a range of electronics (amplifiers etc.) under the Aura brand, but it was discontinued in 1997.

If your player (PS3) is doing the decoding, all your Rotel needs to do is accept PCM multi-channel and not bitstream data. My Rotel does... which one are you using?

My Rotel is the 1057. Running optical for sound and HDMI for picture. I have talked with Rotel and the dealer where I bought it and they say that it will not run uncompressed or the new HD codecs

Why would you need the Rotel to decode HD Audio at all if you have the PS3? The PS3 decodes Dolby True HD and DTS MA HD internally and your Rotel accepts LPCM over HDMI. What's the problem?

First off, nice toy!

I read through the spec sheet, and it states that the Rotel 1057 is HDMI 1.1. It also states in the specs that it can accept LPCM to 192kHz. If you have a PS3, get the latest update (ver.2.30), and use the PS3 to decode the audio, and send it LPCM to your receiver. Now you have a very nice receiver, putting out very nice sound. To learn how to set up the PS3 to output the new codecs, check this link.

Will the rotel not accept an audio signal over hdmi? If it can accept audio over hdmi, toss the optical cable as it is useless.

From what I have been told by Rotel and the dealer is that Rotel cannot accept audio over the HDMI. Should have done more research before I bought it but it sounded so good in the store.

Exchange the 1057 for the 1058 then. Any reputable dealer will allow this, and then you'll pay the difference and hopefully next time, do adequate research before you spend thousands of dollars blindly.

But right on the website you provided, under the "Specifications" tab, in the line that says, "Decodeable Input Signals", it clearly states LPCM @ 192kHz.

Just e-mailed this link to my dealer guy and he is giving it the once over. Hey, just wanted to say thanks for all your help! I'm the first to admit I'm an idiot when it comes to specs. I am sort of s........l.....o........w. with all this. This goes for ALL the replies I have received from the Great Blu Ray Crew !
