Its been awhile since I purchased my last digicam (about 3-4 years now) I currently have a sony point and shoot compact 6MP T5. Sadly, I dropped my cam accidentally and its broken... so... in the market for a new one now.
So, I was just checking out the sonystyle store again and i see all these new "detect the face" technology. They seem to work pretty well in store demo, but not too sure how it is in real life. So, my question is, do they REALLY work and make your face less blury or something? I have another DSLR camera for real shot taking, but just need one where I can carry around easily and use. |

when our son was born 6 months ago, we decided to get a new camera (our other one was junk) we got an 8 or 9 Mega pixel Sony, with the big touch-screen deal on the back.... and it "frames up" the faces etc.... not sure what all it does, and I'm sure I don't use it anywhere near its potential, but it takes great pictures, and is pretty easy to use.... It was only $250 or so, maybe $200 now.... either way, if that's the one you're looking at, I highly recommend it. |

Another recommendation is the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW. I recently bought this after using Sony Cybershots for years. Waterproof and shock proof.

oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, do those "super steady" shot really help out you taking a picture?
I have a lot of blury pic due to my shaky hands. the pixels, my fiancee says that 6-8MP is more than enough since we're not making big poster pics (even if we are, we have other DSLR to do the job). And yes, you are correct, the prices have come down quite a bit over the last 3, 4 years. I got mine for $349.99!! and right now, the ones I am looking at are around 200-250 and could be cheaper from amazon. I am just doubtful about which one to buy and whether I should focus on the "super steady" and "face detection" technology. I love Canon, but Sony has been great as well.... Oh yea, and about the touch screen ones, the demo they showed was not very good (the screen was not as responsive as I'd like and I got big hands.. though my fiancee liked it) |

Super Steady Shot has worked well in several Sony P&S cameras I have used, and works great in my Sony SLRs.
