Default Reciever Onkyo 605 outputs 720p would it..

Would the Onkyo 605 downgrade my 1080p component video from my XBOX 360 to 720p if i were to plug it into the component in and out the HDMI to the HDTV? IF so how could i avoid this.

Sam

Default There are 3 ways

I have a SR 605. From what I know, there are three ways to get the 1080 signal from the X box 360 (or other 1080 DVD player) to your TV:
1) connect the video from the Xbox 360 directly to the TV
2) connect HDMI from the Xbox360 to the SR605, then HDMI to the TV (I don't know if the Xbox 360 has HDMI outputs).
3) connect component from the Xbox 360 to the SR 605, then component to the TV.

The problem is that the SR 605 can take analog input -> analog output at 1080, and HDMI digital input -> HDMI digital output at 1080 since it is pass through video signals. However, to go from component analog input -> HDMI digital output, it has to use it's video chip to do the analog-> digital conversion and that is limited to 720 resolution. Sorry for the bad news.

The SR 805 has a better video and audio chip, but is also much more expensive. I decided, for the price to get the 605. I just made sure what I got had HDMI outputs, and the TV had HDMI inputs.

The 805 is also limited to 720p. Only the 875 and up can do A/D conversion @ 1080p

Componant directly to the TV and optical to the receiver.

since when can you get 1080p video from component cables? I thought the X-BOX 360 could only output 1080 through the VGA cable, or you would have to have one of the elite models with the hdmi.

Some games... such as Resistance, Devil May Cry 4, Uncharted.

All only on PCM so far. The utilization of compressed codecs will have to be seen.

So basically it will be bad to have my 360 go into and out the onkyo? Unless i get a HDMI adapter or my friend who wants to trade me his elite for my pro as he likes the white one better.

If you go in, component, you can go out component, still have the receiver do the switching, and you'll see 1080. You just will have an extra set of cables going to your tv. It's an option at atleast

Ok thanks. Dont know what im going to do about that but that sound logical. Wish it would just do 1080. Why the 720p when the signal in is 1080p///

From Onkyo's site, Doesn't address 1080p signals, but I think the issues still apply.

That is the reason I didn't get the 605.. the downscaling thing..Now I have the STR-DA3300ES which will put everything to 1080p from component.
