Default Twister's Hi-Def Audio Format

I just saw that it's going to be Dolby True HD 5.1. Too bad Warner is deciding to go with Dolby instead of DTS Master Audio 7.1. That movie deserves it! The DVD version included a DTS soundtrack.

I don't mind. Many of the previous few five star audio tracks to me have been TrueHD. I Am Legend, 30 Days of Night, and I just watched 300 again. But technically, I set it to PCM.

I would rather have the 7.1 though. I guess it'll still be worthwhile.

Well TrueHD can do 7.1 too and not all DTS HD MA tracks are 7.1 (Fox use 5.1 for example)

Why is this a surprise?

Warner has never has done 7.1 nor DTS HD MA... Plus, it's an older movie. I doubt the orginal was mixed in anything other then 5.1. I'm just happy they used lossless but 6.1 or 7.1 lossless would have been more fitting for a movie like this.

Before anyone jumps my shit, yes I know Warner's sister company New Line Cinema has been doing 7.1 and DTS MA but from what I hear they are somewhat independent from Warner. Hopefully Warner will follow Newlines lead and offer high bitrate VC-1 and 7.1 mixes in the future.

It's not like Warner couldn't have made a 7.1 track. Look at Lionsgate and other studios. They've taken movies even from the 70's and documentaries and put them in 7.1. I thought they delayed Twister so they could make the audio better but I guess not. Oh, and Twister is using VC-1. I thought maybe Warner was changing their ways with audio too, which I thought was why they delayed it for so long.

I am hoping that when Twister comes out on BD that it will rank F-5 for PQ and AQ. In essence, I want Twister to blow me away.

I never saw Twister, and it is highly anticipated here on BD. 5.1 is nothing a little ProLogic IIx won't fix.

I know, I forgot to make that point. I anticipate newer movies having 7.1... Just not old catalog titles.

Audio probably!

Video? Doubt it

This was a dark, grainy, brownish/greyish movie IIRC. I remember it looking terrible on DVD. I remember dust specks and all. Even cleaned, tweaked and given a high bitrate video I have my doubts. This definitely won't be a 5-star video coming from such a drab looking movie.

They could, but they won't. It's takes money and a great deal of time to do so.

From my understanding it depends on the studio who is doing the mixing/mastering on the movie soundtrack. If Warner does it in-house they probably aren't setup for 7.1. That would explain them never releasing 7.1/6.1/5.1 EX. Lionsgate is setup as you can tell. They been actively pushing DD 5.1 EX/DTS 6.1 ES for the longest time.. even before Blu-ray.

Care to share what those titles are?

Warner has always used VC-1 but they do so using low bitrates. New Line has been ramping those video bitrates up Let's pry Warner follows their lead...

I love this movie and can't wait to hear it with a Dolby True HD codec. At least Warner is finally getting the idea to put lossless audio on their BD's. I just wish more of their titles had True HD as well.

TrueHD and DTS HDMA are both lossless. They're 2 means to the same end, so the only reason to want DTS is fanboy elitism

Yeah. One of the documentaries is Step Into The Liquid and I can't find the 70's one.
