I guarantee you it's the Philips one hands down. It can bitstream both DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD, is a profile 1.1 player and has much faster load times then the S300. I'll probably get one eventually when I can find one for less then $250. Currently I'm quite happy with my Philips BDP9000.

Listen to the man, he knows the truth. I personally would never pick up a S300, heard too many negative things. If you could hold out for the Panasonic players, which EXCEL, then do so.

I concur. Look at it like this Fred, the players are roughly the same price, but the Phillips does everything you would want in a Blu-ray player besides Profile 2.0 features or internal decoding. The s300, while back in the day when it first came out it was a decent player, now it's a million miles for what anybody would want or need in a standalone. Or if you want to spend a little more money, there's the Panasonic players which are QUALITY!!!!! The BD30 is out now and the BD50 should be out around Mayish or Juneish.

Look at it this way: by getting the Philips BDP7200 you're moving forward and pretty much assure that you're pretty future proof as far as you're Blu-ray viewing needs are concerned. On the contrary, by geting the Sony BDP-S300 you're taking a couple of steps backwards and for the same price no less. As Spock would say, that's just illogical.
