Default Synecdoche: New York

I saw this a while ago and I couldn't figure the film out and quite haven't had so now either, so I'd like to see what kind of interpretations people had. The film might be tough to handle but you can tell there's a lot of heart in there and it gets very emotional at times so yeah

I have in my collection, basically it's Charlie Kaufman's narccistic answer to the Fellini's significantly superior film 8 1/2. I urge you to see it (also on blu ray)

It is very similar to that film, it's about a man who is suffering from creating art, which in 8 1/2 it's about as much of a curse for him, because he is not acknowledging the world around him, and fails to embrace it. In Synecdoche New York, it turns the main character into the victim, and blames the world for it's sorrows. They both use symbolism for it's world (the burning home, the tall man in Synedoche New York), it might as well scream 8 1/2 in that film. I know some people who liked it more than I have; I actually loved it the first time I watched it, but I found it pretty self indulgent.

One of my favorite movies. Top 10 of all time for sure.

Heartbreaking. My favorite scene is the funeral.

Mine too. Definitely a film that needs to be seen a few times. Very complex.

Yes but the ending just loses me, I understood the message just the story itself, like was it real to begin with?

Synecdoche: New York was the most depressing movie I have ever seen. I saw it a while ago, so I don't really have an interpretation of it. I just remember being very depressed by it for the rest of the day. Not many movies have had that lasting effect on me.
