I'll take the first stab at this....

If you get an amp and plug a power drill into it, you will get feedback as well as interference from the motor inside the Drill. I do not believe this will result in more watts per channel....

In all seriousness... what are you asking?

Are you asking about external power amps and use your 605 as a pre/pro?

Is this related to your other post about having 6 ohm speakers?

In that case the short answer is yes. The long answer involves resistance (impedance rating) and electrical flow. The 605 is ok with 6 ohm speakers..

You will have whatever the amp puts out, for example if you add a 50 watts per channel amp to your receiver you will have 50 watts per channel. It replaces your receiver amp section, does not add to it.

But you do realize that it is either/or.
Not both at the same time "to add more power".
(unless you are thinking of biamping, which I doubt)

Just as the OP's have stated, you cannot add additional wattage, only replace existing. If you want 70 watts more than the 110 per channel the 605 pushes (@ 6 ohms), then you would need to buy a 180 watt per channel amp (@ 6 ohms).

You can use the 605 as a pre-amp ? I didn't know that, I thought it was 705 and up had the capability.........

If you're thinking about adding a separate amp to the 605 you JUST purchased a few days ago..... time to send it back, sell it on ebay, etc.... if you're going separates, don't even bring the 605 into the equation.

Did you just receive your 605, and determined it was lacking in power???? just curious why you're already looking for some amps

Default Check Out Outlaw..

http://outlawaudio.com/products/index.html

I feel all the amps offer a great bang for the buck....
Replacing the internal amps of the Onkyo with any of these would be a step up in real power

I looked at a photo of a 605 and it does not seem to have pre-outs, so you cannot add an outboard amp to this receiver.

Default ditto...

The 605 will not work due to lack of preamp outs.

Why are you obsessed with watts per channel? More watts doesn't mean greater quality, ya know! ;-)

(BTW, the Onkyo web site lists the specs of all their gear.)

I highly recommend the Marantz SR-8002. I've got 125 watts per channel, and I can bi-amp my speakers with it as well. It's more than enough ooomph for me. I'm losing my hearing slowly as it is.
