Default Help Aaron Get a New Display

I need my own display so I don't ***** the 62" all day. I'm lame, so I'm not buying from anywhere besides Best Buy. My primary uses are going to be gaming and Blu-ray. I'll be sitting about 11 feet away.

Here's what I like, what one should I go with?

Samsung - 56" 1080p Slim-Depth DLP HDTV

Toshiba - REGZA 47" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

And if some rich guy here wants to buy this for me, feel free

Mitsubishi - Diamond 73" 1080p DLP HDTV

Thanks!
My vote is for the LG.

BE prepared though because many of the responses will be one of the following:

1) Best Buy is overpriced - buy from Amazon (or other online discount store).
2) Save up and buy and 46XBR4 or 5.
3) Make sure it has 120hz and can do 24fps.

Best Buy is my only option (sad, I know). And I'm a poor HS student that isn't spending more than $1500.

Err, try Samsung. They used S-LCD (Sony) sourced panels for 40" or above.

For their 2008 models? I just bought mine a few weeks ago. But wasn't sure what panel was used for it. If it's Sony, that's fine with me.

More power to you. It is my opinion that you will be happier in the long run with the LG.

For under $1500, i find it hard to believe you'll find a better HDTV than the REGZA. They make excellent tv's, i bought one around Christmas time and got a hell of a deal on it. The model i purchased also happened to be a consumer reports best buy!! Of course my opinion is a little biased, but i am telling you that you'll LOVE the tv you get if you decide on the Regza. Go to toshiba.com and they have a showroom where it lists features/manufacturers prices!

Hah, ya, my dad wants me to get my own TV so I don't ***** the 62" all day. He said he would go in halves on it, and I'm not spending more than $750.

All of the 42" Regza's I've seen are the same price as BBY, so why not? I can get more Reward Zone points and not have to pay and wait for shipping. I also get a free Yahaha DVD player.

And this Samsung is a pretty good buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1205537514032

I recently purchased a 46" 1080p Regza from Best Buy. I compared it to the Samsung and LG's that were set up right next to it and it was identical to them both, if not better. The only tv's that were clearly better were the tv's with 120hz, but I wasn't going to spend double for it when I was really just looking for 1080p.

There's another thread about this, but at 11' you won't be getting any benefit from a 1080P set unless you go about 50" or higher. (All else being equal.) Your eye can't pick out details that fine from that distance. If you end up going smaller, get a 720P set and you'll save some money. I posted a link to an article in the 1080P vs 720P thread, and Dobyblu posted a very cool chart. I'll try to find the link...

You can get those Sony SXRD RPTV's from 50-60 inches, the a3000 series, on sick clearance sales right now since, sadly, these have been discontinued.

Sears, Best Buy, Circuit City, online with Amazon, One Call, Vanns, Crutchfield...

I very seriously doubt you can do better, especially given the prices we're talking about. I've seen people get the 60a3000 legit new for a grand. No joke.

I think going with a 50+ inch is a good way to go and then max out your features, 120hz, HDMI 1.3. Unless you truly value a space saving flat tv then go with the DLP they have come a long way and have addressed their early problems.
