PS3 playing PS 1 question - Blu-ray Forum

Hi,

I have a 40G PS3 just purchased about 6 weeks ago. I am wondering if I am able to play PS1 games on PS3?

i believe its only PS2 games you cant play

I found that I cannot play PS2, but not sure about PS1 games, which I believe are VCD based?

All PS3's can play PS1 games. Only the 40gb cannot play PS2 games.

There are a few old school PS1 games I'd like to pick up, but they are not exactly cheap (Puzzle Fighter for example, still going over $40 on ebay/half.com)

So, I dont want to buy smething I cannot play.

Does someone have a PS3 and some PS1 games that they can try out?

Puzzle Fighter? You mean Super Puzzle Fighter? You might want to look around on the Playstation Store first, as there's an HD remake on there (at least in the U.S. anyway). You might also notice several PS1 games... yes, all PS3's play PS1 games. There's very few, if any, known glitches.

Well, I dont have a 40gb, but I have played PS1 games on my 60gb. And if you are looking for Super Puzzle Fighter, you can download that on the PS Store. And it is less then $40, it is in HD, and has online play.

You can go to the support page on playstation.com to do a check of what games are backwards compat with your PS3.

yeah the Puzzle Fighter you can download off of the PS3 is amazing but isnt it number 2 or 3? edit: plus you can download the demo

There was only one Super Puzzle Fighter. The HD one is a remix version with some extra "modes" to make the game easier.

I saw there was a PS3 version one on ebay and amazon, but wasnt sure what that is.

The one on the PS Store is Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo Remix. Which as far as I know is the only puzzle fighter. The Remix is just that it was redone for HD and has one extra mode that makes the game easier. Other then that it is the puzzle fighter we love. Plus you can play online for free.

just make sure you are hooked up to a router
