Default Thoughts on the future...

I know this is really just speculation and opinion, but I'm curious as to which upcoming HDTV people think will be the best. By the best I'm referring only to picture quality. Not price, value, etc, although opinions about these things are welcome. Seems to me the choices are the Pioneer 10 Lumen 10G panel plasmas or Sony OLEDs. I've been lurking around for a while, and from what I've read here (and elsewhere) both seem like they are going to be incredible. Thoughts?

Looks to me like the OLED televisions might be the wave of the future. If they look as good as plasma, and consume far less power due to their use of tri-color LEDS (or something like that), nothing else can compete. Keep in mind, however, that projection onto a reflective screen still rules, but I don't consider projectors televisions.

OLED, nice. if they look as good as plasmas, and running on LED, means that they will last much longer than plasma, very nice. I dont know much about the OLED, but its interesting. Not exactly sure what you mean by reflective screen, but i have a DLP which is rear projection and id take LCD or Plasma over it. dont get me wrong, my tv looks great but still...

Wasn't there some concern about the life of blue LEDs? I might be way off, but I know I've read something to that effect.

I think OLED is probably the future as well. I saw that 11" screen at a Sony Store and it looked amazing. However, most things look good at that small a screen size. Specs wise though it does sound convincing. However, I don't see this technology be widespread available for at least another 10 years. Size and especially price will be its biggest hurdle.

I think plasma will be #1 for the next 5 years.
I'm interested to see some in detail reviews on the Laser TV's when they're finally out though.

Laser if it holds up to its promise and has long life may replace DLP

OLED is going to be too expensive for the forseeable future

Mitsubishi is set to release their laser tv sometime soon (Q3 2008). I'm interested to see how they will fare against high-end plasmas. Why is OLED so expensive?
