Default Matrix Sound Feature

I have been wanting to step up and upgrade my home theater surround sound and build a nice 7.1 system.

My question to those out there that have a 7.1 set up it is how nice or how important should a Matrix feature be to get sound from 5.1 to 7.1 from the sources that only support 5.1 sound?

I have a PS3 for Blu's and have been looking at the Onkyo 605, but doesn't the matrix feature start showing up on the 705 and above? Would I even care/need/want to matrix?

it depends on the user. some people dont want the audio touched in anyway in fear of degrading the audio. its a nice feature to have when playing sd dvds or even games.

I dont think I would mind not having two speakers operating most of the time as most meterial I see is 5.1. I was just wondering what 7.1 users thought about the feature being used and how they liked it and would it be worth my time looking for that feature.

i actually dont think he answered your question. its was about 5.1 to 7.1 not 7.1 to 7.1.

He was saying 7.1 is 7.1 and you should not try and make 5.1 into 7.1. That is what I took from it.
