Thinking about getting a new set within the next month.
![]() Does anyone here have one of these LED fired units? How does it compare to a bulb unit such as the Mitsubishi diamond series? Also, whats this new laser DLP coming out? ![]() Looking at DLP because LCD and Plasma prices are too high once you get above 50". |

I have a HL-S5679W from Samsung and love it. Some owners have complained about the blacks not being dark enough, but I'm happy with it. Also the set I have is said to have hot spots, basically the center of the screen is brighter than the edges. Again though, I've not noticed it. The LED light engine was a big draw for me. I didn't want to have to pay for a bulb every few years. However, I have no idea what it would cost to replace the LED's and therefore can't say I've made a solid choice. Life estimates for the LED's were 10x that for the bulbs. I figure by then I'll be getting a new set anyhow and the price of the LED set was the same as the bulb set (as it was a previous year's model) In conclusion, I've had my LED Sammy for over a year and absolutely love it. I use it for 360 gaming, Blu-ray watching(panny DMP-BD30), and HD Cable viewing. I'm still floored by the picture and really enjoy showing it off to friends and family.

Have the Samsung 6189 check my sig for more info - it is a first generation led set purchased almost 2 years ago - the picture is just like new. Prior to this I was running an Epson projector and its amazing how fast 3000 hours go by and it's time to change the bulb. After 3 changes I said enough and bought the Samsung - no regrets here - When I get off work for the weekend the tv is generally on pretty much the whole weekend - haven't seen any picture degradation yet... I say GO FOR IT

I was able to get HL61A750 from Best Buy - they have them online in their "outlet" section but that is only because they are discontinued.
Mine was on a buy-back on a JVC RPTV - just waiting for the store to store transfer to be completed so I can trade in the old one and get the new one |

I have the 6189s and love it. No bulb chanignig required. Supposedly it is not as bright as a bulb, but i jsut put it in dynamic mode and it seems plenty bright to me. ALso the LED are designed in a way that they monitor their brightness over time and as they fade the unit compensates and increases the power to the LED. SO supposedly you get the same brightness form the LED 5 years later as compared to the day you brought it home. Problem with bulbs is they slightly fade in brightness over time. So even if the bulb doesn't blwo, it may need to be replaced because it fades over time. Last edited by slaizer2000; 03-24-2009 at 06:50 PM. |

I have never run my tv in dynamic mode always movie mode, but I have some pretty dark drapes in my living room. I also used the TweakTV website to set a base calibration on the tv. The calibration works pretty well, try it if you haven't already. |
