Default PowerDVD 8 Ultra

Can't remember if anyone has posted pics of the newPowerDVD 8 Ultra software, and the search function was... lacking.

Works pretty good actually!

Besides this what other programs can one use to view Bluray on laptops/pcs?

Do most comps already have this on there or do you need to pay more to get it?

Mine came with WinDVD BD for VAIO.
It refuses to play some of the newer BDs - just sits there and does nothing.
The new WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray, some like.
It does ok.
Arcsoft Total Media Theater is supposed to be ok too.

As long as you dont have BD drive in the computer you wont getter any software that can play them. Then it depends on what kind of brand you get, as I read the Sony ones come with WinDVD and some other brands offer PowerDVD instead. Both have trouble playing back certain titles though.
I havent tried Arcsoft Total Media Theater, yet, but heard it supposed to be on the same level as the other two.

Actually, most people would still be talking about PowerDvD 7.3 Ultra when talking about PowerDvD. I'm pretty sure most people used this since it was the only program out there for the longest time. PowerDvD 8 only came out a couple weeks ago and I don't think many old 7.3 users would upgrade if they already committed to something else like WinDvD 9.
Maybe PowerDvD 8 Ultra plays more titles then WinDvD 9 Plus but for new adopters of BD on PC, it's a toss up between WinDvd and PowerDvD. I have only heard crap things about Total Media Theater.

I have bought it, but why I don't get the download link and license key??

Also, I tried to buy WinDVD 9 BD. Seems they are not allowing me to log in (despite the fact that I can log-in to their site, but not to their store). Why is everybody rejecting me like this?

I bought both WinDVD9 Plus and PowerDVD 8 Ultra. PowerDVD wins by far. It's rich with features, much better user interface and video files/regular DVDs are better upscaled. From what I heard, WinDVD is compatible with more Blu-rays but I have yet to see compatibility issues with PowerDVD. Also, if you own PowerDVD 7 Ultra, there's no reason to upgrade yet (to be honest). 8 is just prettier, and probably supports more codecs, that's all. Future updates might make it worth purchasing. If it's your first time, then PowerDVD 8 Ultra is the way to go.

Since the new update Total Media Theatre plays everything I throw at it. I'm thinking about updating to WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray (I all ready have the WinDVD 9 Plus version - I use it strictly for upconversion). I have PowerDVD 7 Ultra also - because at the time, it was basiclly the only option. If I would have to choose one - I would go with WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray (I've only heard good things about its BD playback - and it has more options than any player). Anyway I look at it - I just love HTPC!

Call them - they are very helpful. I had a registed version of WinDVD 8 Platinum and I wanted to upgrade, it didn't show in my software online. I called them and they saw my registration (but they verified that it didn't appear online). I got the upgrade price and they mailed me my key and the download link. Excellent service!

PowerDVD 8 looks good, but I was told by the tech that in my case it still won't fix the problems im having with the software.
They basically told me its the exact same program, with a new interface and the ability to play HD-DVD stripped from it... that's all... not worth 60 bucks from me yet

WinDVD 9 has worked really well for me, plays everything new movies, old movies, everything, doesn't want to do bd-live, but i don't think im missing much yet...

arcsoft suffered teh same problems as pdvd for me, wouldn't play any movie that had a loading screen, (ie: disney flicks, terminator 3, spiderman 3, walk hard, etc)

got it today (download link for PowerDVD 9 and its key)..... I will try to get WinDVD 8 asap. I currently using a version that was given to me by somebody (I guess he gave me illegal version), I really want the version that I bought myself. It managed to play what PowerDVD 7 can't (alvin and the chipmunks region B).

People, the OEM versions of either WinDVD or PowerDVD that come with BD drives are total garbage. Unless you are using the retail version of the software that you purchased on your own your opinion counts for nothing.
