Default Is this really true?

I heard that if you get a Plasma or LCD TV that you shouldnt play ANY video games on them(PS3, 360) because the fast motion can blur or damage the screen? Someone please tell me this isnt true

I don't know if it's true or not, all I can give you is my experience.

I have a 37" 720p LCD flatpanel and have been playing games on it since the day I got it more than a year ago. First it was my X-Box and PS2, now it is my PS3. I haven't had a single problem with it in regard to games. (Only my HDMI switch has an annoying habit of occasionally turning my TV off when I turn off a device attached to it.)

Hope that's of some help to you.

I have had a 37" Westinghouse 1080p LCD connected to a Playstation 3 since January 2007. My 12-year old has played games for seemingly endless hours without any damage to the screen. The picture quality is just as awesome today as it was when first connected

The only time I can see this becoming a problem is when an image is left on the screen for an extended amount of time. So if you need to pause a game for something, just turn off the tv and turn it back on when you are ready to play again. This is why I don't recommend anyone get a store demo tv, because they are left on all the time and get really bad screen burn in. The newer models that have been coming shouldn't have a problem if you play games on them.

I've got a Sammy 52" LCD and have played video games on it since day 1 (Wii and PS3) and have had no problems. I can't imagine this is an issue anymore. I thought screen refresh rates were just to fast now to ever get a significant burn in. My TV even has a "Game Mode" which bumps up the processing power.

Fast motion will NEVER damage an LCD or plasma screen. As an earlier poster mentioned, a stationary image can eventually "burn in" on some earlier plasma screens, but never on an LCD screen. Admittedly, some screens show smoother motion than others (think 120Hz), but damage is not a concern.

LCD's should be ok plasma on the other hand burn is still a major problem. Granted they have come a long way but it is still an issue.

Burn in is not a major problem. There are many things to counter it now with new models of plasmas such as pixel movement every 2min (The screen automatically moves 1-4 pixels to the left and then 1-4 up and then back again) also if there is a slight pciture that you can see burnt in a little you can use the white screen mode to get rid of it. The picture also has to be sitting for quite a long time for burn in to occur. I game a lot and i know that nothing on the screen is up long enough to burn in with the way the screen changes when you go to menus or loading and what not. A lot of board members here have plasmas and game on thier plasmas.

Man, these threads continue to get legs with constant misinformation.

Plasma and LCD's both have cons, do some research. I still think Plasma is the better investment.

Motion blur is nothing to worry about it can't harm the TV only a picture of the same continuous image can harm the TV.

I have been playing video games on my plasma since 04 almost every day (PS2, PS3) and I have no burn in whatsoever. Burn in is not a major problem at all.

Ahhh...the old "video games ruin tv" monster rear its head back in... Previous poster says it all...it's not the fast motion you worry about, it's the stationary (like scores, $$, lives, etc) icons that appear on your tv when playing video game...these can cause a ghost image on your tv...(rarly happen these days because tv technology is better...also...80s video game DOES ruin tv because their games have no moving background....to video games are 3D and tv are better built so don't worry about them)....

I had a bad burn in problem using a PC on and LG plasma that apparently had protection for it. It was not permanent, but after using the PC I could see the desktop icons in the screen for the next week! very annoying while watching movies. I would never touch anothe Plasma again after that experience!
