Hi all, I am new to this forum, I am stumled to this forum while searching for a way to make my new SOny Blu-ray (BDP-S1) play regular CD.
It play the Blu-ray disc ( the one that come with it, the 5th Element,) but it won't play any regular CD at all. This is odd, as all other post seems to have problem with playing Blu-ray disc, but no problem with CD.. I was wondering if anyone can help me out? Thanks, |

Try reading the manual. Maybe it has something there about your problem.

The Sony Blu-ray BDP-S1 you own will play CD’s and CD-R’s and CD-RW. Make sure you try store bought CD’s in it first. There can be incompatibility problems with some CD-RW and CD-R media and players.
Also try updating your firmware with the latest software update from Sony to fix bugs. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...=2362&os_id=99 p.s. Ok my mistake. I misread the manual. When it says all types of CD’s I did not read above where it says it will not play any CD's. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 01-15-2007 at 04:22 PM. Reason: added ps |

The Sony player only supports Blu-ray and DVD.

Page 7 of the Sony manual also lists that it will not play Blu-ray recordable and rewritable’s. That’s the price to pay for first generation products. I am sure the second generation will play CD’s and Blu-ray blank media.

The Playstation 3 plays CD’s and Playstation one games. In some ways since the Playstation 3 is the only Blu-ray available with HDMI 1.3 and it plays CD’s it is the best value at $499 and $599. If Sony would add 1080P/24 support then it would attract the highend market also. The big advantage of of the Pioneer and Sony player is that it outputs 1080p/24.

Planned Sony firmware upgrade in 2007 will allow for compatibility with most BD R/RE discs on the BDP-S1. I wonder if they will also have a firmware update to allow owners to play CD’s. It’s possible the hardware optical pickup will not support CD’s even with a firmware upgrade.
