Default Paying full price for blu rays??

Just wondering how many people actually pay full price for day one releases??..I just can't bring myself to pay $20 and up for a single blu ray, UNLESS it's a steelbook, or some other limited/special edition.

If it’s a movie I want day 1…..i’ll pick it up for $19.99…..but never higher than that…..and even that’s not very often anymore.

If you're talking new release titles, then definitely not. I usually wait until the title is no longer new and pick it up then, no way I'm paying $20-$30 for some title just because it's new. As for older catalog titles, they're usually priced pretty low to begin with so I'll definitely pick up those on release day.

I don't mind paying full price. I can think of plenty of worse things to spend my money on. In my country, cinema tickets to some movies are even $20, screw that, I would pay double to watch in my own HT.

I regularly pay £22 for the newest US releases which works out about $35

Could I wait weeks/months for it to drop, sure I could but I have the money and if it's something I really want then why wait?

If it's a movie I love and can't wait to watch again, I'll gladly buy it on the first day, or first week of release.

$20 to own a movie I'm dying to see or loved is not a bad deal. Besides, $20 usually isn't full price.

Most people never pay full msrp to begin with but I will occasionally buy a new release for $19.99 or 22.99 if it's a movie I really enjoyed. That only happens maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Catalog titles on the other hand I have no issue paying $20 a piece for from scream factory, synapse or any of the other boutique labels who put out the movies I love.

Of course I do. Most Blu-rays are just slightly under $20 dollars on release day in stores.

It's hard to even find a new release selling with a street price of SRP. AFAIK Barnes and Noble is the only retailer (worth mentioning) in the U.S. where this is possible?

Well, 28 of the titles I purchased this year were Criterion. So, no: I wasn't going to be getting those for $5.

A number of the others were catalog titles that weren't particularly expensive.

However, if I really want a film I have no problem paying full price (i.e., what Amazon charges on discount) for it. I don't get to the theater much anymore (3 times last year), so unless I want to wait forever to see something I need to get it on or near release day.

So, it really depends on what the film is, who's releasing it, and how much I want to own it.

As others have noted, $20 isn't even anywhere near full price.

If it's something I absolutely must have on release day, I'll pre-order it on Amazon as early as possible, engaging Amazon's pre-order price guarantee, which ensures I pay the lowest price offered between then and the end of release day. That's often quite a bit lower than retail and/or regular sale price.

Do stores even sell Blu-rays at full retail price? If they do, still seems it should be easy to avoid ever paying full price by shopping around a bit... except in the case of limited-release Blus only available at select retailers, like Twilight Time, TCM Vault Collection, Code Red, etc.

Exactly!..I don't mind paying $20 or so, for a hard to find or boutique label and have done so, many, many times...I have, as you stated paid full price, maybe 3 times this year,LOL...I bought "Tusk" last night for $15 on release day, but it came with a slipcover and I have really been wanting to see it...

I'll tell you this, I'm done holding out for price drops on Marvel titles after release week.

Iron Man 3 and Captain America Winter Soldier made me wait till I had RZ certs to get their prices low.

Yeah, high-profile Disney releases are the one exception to the rule of titles dropping in price after a few months.

* shakes fist at disney*. Overpriced titles. Thankfully they have the Disney movie club that has Pixar/ghibli/marvel titles on there. I got the 3 new Ghiblis plus Thor and captain America first avenger for like 15 each. Only way it's worth it.
