I know where to get the firmware, my questions are..
What did you use to burn it with (XP, Vista, Nero, ECT)? What kind of disc (CD:r, CD:rw, ect)? What did you use to get it into the Onkyo (DVD player, Blu-Ray player, CD Player, ect), and how did you have to hook up said device to do so (certain cable types, ports, ect). Ive been putting off updating mine for quite a while. Im not sure if I want to do it myself, or have Onkyo do it for me. I dont have a CD player laying around that I can hook into it so Im hoping other Disc playing mediums will work. Im curious as to how fragile this is to do, and what all Id need to do it. |

I burned mine using Sonic RecordNow. CD-R disc.
Used standard DVD player for install. Optical cable to Optical input 1. If I remember correctly, this is in the instructions. Remember to unzip the file you download before burning to a disc. Follow the instructions as outlined. Really pretty painless, took about two minutes. |

I burned an AUDIO CD on a CD-R using Roxio classic creator running over Windows XP.
I connected my Panasonic BD-30 Blu-ray player to the Onkyo using an optical cable. I believe optical into input 1 is part of the directions. It was not difficult for me. It worked on the first try using the first disc that I burned. I did not replicate the .wav file on the disc as some have suggested. I just burned it and popped it in. |

There was an "issue" with the DSP chips in the Onkyo AVRs (as well as many Yamahas) that when playing SOME DTS HD MA movies, a VERY LOUD pop would occur. The problem does not appear widespread in terms on titles, but many think it is a severe enough sound to possibly cause damage to the speakers.
The DSP firmware update prevents this problem from occuring with these discs. |

Unfortunately I cannot register to this site to obtain the update as I am in New Zealand, my serial number is not known, the NZ/Pacific sites does not offer anything along these lines. Can someone email or offer another download location? Thanks

If you have a media player that doesn't alter the audio, I don't see why it wouldn't work, assuming that the PC would treat a .wav file on the HD the same way it would the a .wav on a disc in the media drive.
