Default Walmart drops price

Walmart has lowered the price of the Samsung BD-P1000 on their website by $300 to $698

It doesn't really effect me, I already picked up the PS3, but I wonder how much pressure this will put on the market to lower the prices of other units?

It puts a lot of pressure on Toshiba to get ONE truelly rock solid player out there.

And it is more incentive for those that were spooked by price and can't get their head around the PS/3.

IMO, the MSRP of that Sammy should be no more than $499 right now.

I felt like it was overpriced when it originally came out and that they should have price matched the Toshiba XA1. That was a mistake and missed oppurtunity in the early goings.

jtk, i agree on the whole

looking at it from the glass is half full perspective though...
if we would have had the sammy at $500 to start, a lot of people would have bought it. because of the NR chip problem, this would mean a ton of faulty players sold right out of the gate. obviously, this has major implications and could conceivably have killed things outright. maybe it was better to have had the higher price point.
