Hello Everyone,

Like a lot of us, I am in the market for a new receiver. The price range I am looking at is around the $1000.00 area. My question... How important is it (for future-proof insurance) to get a receiver with an ethernet jack. My concern is spending a lot of money now and in two years I will again have to upgrade. Is it worth it right now to push the budget a bit or wait until the Master HD and DTS HD prices come down on higher end receivers.

PS: I am aware of the Onkyo 605 but I need more power.

Thanks!!

The minute you bend over backwards to get Ethernet etc.... it'll just be some other new technology.... there is no such thing as "future proofing"

I'd just look at a good sonically pleasing AVR with HDMI 1.3 and you should be all set..... think Denon, etc.

The best u can do is to get a receiver with 1.3 decoder like the pioneer elite 91 or Denon 2808ci bith great receivers.

If u want to future proof ur system i suggest separates u would have spend a little more in the beginning, but it is worth it in the future. Go to emotiva.com.
They have great amps take a look at the LPA-1 they have it refurbished for 399 and its 7 channels and puts out 125 watts each and it will sound clearer than a pioneer or a denon and comes with 5 year warranty. They have processor coming out in the late summer that will have HDMI 1.3 for HD audio codes. With their processors they offer 40% off ur next one giving u a great discount so it is not as painful to upgrade in a few years and u can still sell ur old processor on ebay or something. Just a thought, thats what im doing and im loving it.

YOu could get the 4308CI from Denon and just use WiFi!

The interactivity is awesome. You can log onto the receiver with your laptop or PC and control everything that way, changing settings, internet radio, etc.
