Default Belly & The Doors

How long ago was "Belly & The Doors" prepped on blu-ray before it was released? One or two months ago? Was it prepped before "The Bank Job" or after? I found it very interesting because I have been reading this forum for a while. I see a few complaints about Lionsgate Film, that they did not have proper subtitles for those that needed it.
To answer Steve Way's question. Belly does not have SDH but The Doors does have it. Both were released last week at same time. I wondered why Belly did not have SDH. I got a feeling that Belly was prepped before The Doors a long time ago and they held off on releasing it until last week. It seemed like it was an old, not updated copy. Also, Lionsgate should put "SDH" print on back of the case cover so people will know when Lionsgate Film movies are SDH subtitled.

Its difficult to say. It most likely isn't an issue with the timing of the release, but rather what was already available. For catalog titles, studios usually end up recycling as much content as possible from the DVD release because either there is nothing else to put on the disc, or its not cost effective to generate new content.

For the most part, catalog titles sell a lot less units than new releases. A studio has to calculate how many units they expect a title to sell, and then determine how much work to put into a catalog released based on the goal of obtaining profit. They aren't going to spend thousands of dollars to generate new material if they don't think they will get that money back in sales.

My guess is that Belly didn't have SDH subtitles on the DVD, and since the projected unit sales weren't that high, they decided to forgoe making one. That's just a guess. For all we know, someone could have simply forgot to put in on the disc!

Thank you for your reply! I have another question; do you know when both movies were announced? Was it before The bank Job? When a studio announces their blu-ray releases, does this mean they had done work on the copies before the announcement? Am trying to figure it out with a time line Thank you for your help

What happens many times is that a studio will prep several releases internally and the marketing people will push the actual release back even though all work has been finished on the title. Fox did this with several BDs last year like Master & Commander, which was released overseas much earlier than it was here domestically. Sometimes these studios do market research and determine that certain titles will do better at different times on the schedule.

An accurate or usable time line could only be acquired from Lionsgate directly. The discs could have been prepared years ago and delayed (as mentioned above). It would be difficult to pinpoint an exact date when the disc was completed without some internal memo from Lionsgate.

Do you have any information on how to contact Lionsgate? Does anyone know how I can contact them? I was told about a certain member that had contact information for them, but when I did some research here last night it seems that this member was banned. He is a former member named Caligula, I think he was valuable to this site and was very involved in this kind of stuff. Why was he banned? Is there any way I could contact him or bring him back to this site? I am hard of hearing, I lost 60% of my hearing due to being exposed daily to extremely loud music (I was in a band) so although I can still hear some, I do require subtitles in order get the full effect of a movie. I would like to be as involved as others in improving the quality of Blu-ray for all viewers.

No, unfortunately I don't. I do occasionally get to talk to execs. Next time I do, I'll bring it up.

I have not seen "The Doors", but i do have Belly and it really is not an improvement over the DVD version, although i am unable to test the HD sound because i dont have a capable reciever. But also keep in mind that everyone has there own opinion, so rent then judge unless you just like the movie like myself
