Default Building a new setup and would like some opinions...

I just joined this forum, but am a long time lurker. I've read tons of threads about so much stuff that I'm very confused. But instead of asking a million questions, I'll just say what I've decided to do and see what y'all think. For a TV, I've decided on the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U. I could go a little cheaper and get the TH-50PZ80U, but reading this forum made me think I should go with the new 800 model. Do y'all think this is a good move?

As for a receiver, I've decided on the Onkyo TXSR805. Here's my main receiver question. I want to keep my current speakers...they're Klipsch and about 4 years old. I only have 5 speakers and the subwoofer...and the 805 is a 7.1 system. I apologize if this is a stupid question, but is it ok to use my 5.1 speakers on a 7.1 receiver? Is there a setting that makes it a 5.1?

Thanks so much for any info.

Yep, 5.1 will work with it.

I have 5.1 on a 7.1 JVC receiver as well (I'm planning on hopefully upgrading to an onkyo sometime this year)

cath...did you have to change any settings on your receiver? Or just ignore the additional speaker outputs?

the receiver knows not to send signal to speakers that aren't plugged in. Additionally, after you run the audessey program, it will further adjust the speakers and make the internal adjustment to only 5.1 speakers.

Default Side Note...

When you wire up to the receiver be sure that the surrounds are connected to the surround outs NOT the surround back (no matter where you actually place the speakers) the Surround back are for the speakers you want to add later.
