Default I Need help on picking good speakers

I have a sony dg-910 7.1 reciever. I am looking for help what everyone likes speaker wise. I am currently using a sony set that is 6 years old that is 5.1, that came in one of those home theaters in a box. I am a Blu ray fanatic, most movies me and my wife watch are action. Any advice on a good subwoofer would be helpfull too.

doesn't really matter, not sure how much everything cost. I would like to get a great sounding set 5.1 or 7.1 with an awesome sub for around 1500 or less

Well, if that's what you have in mind, I can definitely recommend the Bowers & Wilkins M-1 satellite units. They are really compact speakers for the punch that they pack. As for the sub? I'd recommend that Bowers & Wilkins AS-2 to go with the satellites, but that might breach your budget quota that you listed. I picked up my 5.1 + AS-2 subwoofer for approx $2100 CDN.

The satellites don't come with floorstands though. They come with bookshelf bases and wall mounting brackets. Mine are mounted... LOVE IT! I can't get over how good these sound without taking up much room and being extremely reasonably priced.

P.S. I spent 2 months sampling an incredible number of speakers before purchasing these and found them to offer every I needed for the price. Mind you, if I were building a home theatre room from scratch I would obviously go for speakers that would be installed IN the walls instead of ON the walls.

I got a set of M-1's for a bedroom (no sub) and love them..... I have larger B&W speakers for my main theater, and Love them as well..... The M-1's are great for saving space.... Whatever you decide though, make sure to go listen to them yourself before buying. (note, B&W are ver "musical" speakers as well (I'm surprised by the M-1's) so if you and your wife like Classical/Jazz, instrumental, etc.... they're a great speaker manufacturer for that.

Didn't see that coming

That is another option, but again.... you have to listen to speakers. Klipsch are easy to find, which is a plus for them also. I'd look at some Polks, and Paradigm/Def Tech's also.... all reputable brands.

Default Check out Aperion speakers

free shipping both ways. 30 day in home trial. I have had a 7.1 system from them since around December-excellent towers and center, but of course now they came out with new towers and centers...I am currently upgrading waiting for the shipment for replacement.

My vote goes to Paradigm.

www.paradigm.com

I also see there are some deals to be had on E-bay on used Paradigms. I've had good luck buying used Paradigms online, with the one exception that I got nailed by customs for shipping one from Canada to the USA.

I would second the recommendation Aperion Audio speakers.. They are very outstanding sounding speakers..

www.aperionaudio.com

They have very high quality veneer finish, and a beautiful piano black finish or cherry wood. Very clear and crisp sound.. I also had a DG910 and had these speakers driven by the sony and it was working fine..

Then also I will mention..

www.av123.com
Ascend
Axiom

I heard some klispch speakers this weekend.. Synergy F2's I think.. I wasn't overly impressed with them.. They sounded nice and all but they cost almost the same as my speakers and they have a vynal finish..

PSB Speakers Image line...

A "listen to" list without them is an injustice!

I've been looking at the M-1s as possible surround speakers. Do you know if they can be mounted on the ceiling?

probably, you can get wall-mounts, and I'm guessing they swivel some-what.

great! thanks. I'll have to find a local dealer and check them out. I was also looking at the LM-1s. Both seem like really good speakers for their size.

Cambridge Soundworks makes nice satellites too. If you can find them, give them a listen.
