For anyone out there who just got "Untraceable" on Blu-ray, could you tell me if the PQ and AQ is worth a Blu-ray purchase? Thanks!

I thought the PQ and SQ were good (maybe 4/5 for both). It's a little hard to judge the PQ though. It looks like they toned down the colors for effect. Overall though, I was satisfied with the PQ/SQ and enjoyed the movie. It was actually much better than I expected.
Edit: Oh, I guess I didn't answer the question. I'm happy with the purchase but I'm not sure what to recommend as far as buying it. Since it's a thriller, once you know how it turns out, it probably won't be quite as "thrilling" on repeat viewings. Also, it looks like their intent was to make it somewhat dreary/gloomy looking so it's not really flashy enough to use for demo material (imo of course). Having said that, if I had rented it first, I still would have ended up purchasing it. In other words, I liked it enough that I'd want it as part of my collection. It was a good thriller, with 4/5 ratings for PQ/AQ like others have said. The director shot the movie in a bleak setting, so all the colors are muted and the scenery is drab. But it was kind of going for "The Ring" type look. Still, it was a clean picture. The Dolby TrueHD track was extremely lean and efficient, probably averaging about 1.7mbps, but still delivering an immersive experience.
There are points in the film, where the dialogue is very bad. I felt bad for the actors as they had to deliver the lines, and I could almost see on their faces that they weren't into it. That said, there are some good thrills in this and Diane Lane is always nice to watch. If you are a horror fan, there are some great and creative kill scenes in this too. Not sure if it was worth buying, but it was a blind buy for me. I would say rent it, and if you enjoy it then buy it. I don't regret the blind buy though. |

I had rented it from BB online and liked it enough to go out and buy it. Walmart had it for $24.99. The video quality is very good. I don't have a HDMI receiver yet, but the DD 5.1 audio was still good. So the TrueHD should be awesome.
This one also has a picture-in-picture feature, which I will try out soon. I think most of the extras are in HD. |
