Default What is 6.1?

I understand 5.1 and 7.1 but what is 6.1 and why would it be used over 5.1 and 7.1?

Yeah, but does it add that much? Why does it jump from 7.1 to 10.1? It seems that is 6.1 was good, 8.1 would be more popular than 7.1...

I dunno.

Thanks anyway.

6.1 seems like it was more of fad, 7.1 was more useful. but 10.1 dang that sounds expensive and could be a deal breaker with the wife. Too many speakers.

6.1 wasn't good...which is why it never really caught on, hence the jump to 7.1

as for 10.1 the average user is not going to have a 10 speaker set up at least not yet anyhow unless they want to take on part of the national debt in setting up such a system

I have a 6.1 system. It's useless. Was more of a fad, really. Not many DVD's were released with 6.1 support to begin with.

I removed the 6th rear speaker and kept it at 5.1

The reason for that is DVD can't do 6.1 unless it's EX or ES Flagged witch is like ProLogic on the back and thus not real discrete channel. DTS can do True 6.1 but only with 1.5mbits witch is extremely rare on DVD. On Bluray, 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 mix are real..
