Default Connecting Reveiver to Wall Plate

I know this is a basic question, but I am a newbie...who hopes to someday know what I am doing.

Here is the situation: the house has 6.1 Dolby surround sound (which I have never heard of because I thought they were either 5.1 or 7.1), it has 6 in-wall Klipsch speakers that are wired through the walls to a wall plate. I just bought a receiver that is 7.1 surround sound....and now I am trying to figure out the best way to connect the receiver to the wall plate......any suggestions?

I have read the posts about wire gauges, bananna plugs, soldering, etc etc..but I kind of need a VERY basic explanation of what I need to buy and do.

I am hoping to get this receiver hooked up this weekend. Thanks for your help.

First you have to check the wallplate to see which is you center and surrounds then go from there.

I am a newbie...but not that "new." So I have already figured out the wall plate, now I am looking for what type of wire, cable, connectors to use to connect the receiver and the wallplate. Any suggestions?

I think what he meant by check the wall plate is "what kind of connections can your wall plate accept, can it accept banana plugs or is it one of those where you push down, insert the wire and waalaa.."

I would use banana plugs & make sure you read your Receiver manual to determine which is the recommended channel for the "6" rear center, on mine it is the left surround back terminal.

Hope this helps..

It accepts banana plugs. It looks like this attachment. There are 3 plates, two plates have 6 connections and one plate has 4 connections.

They should be labeled to identify which speaker you are connecting, all you need is enough speaker wire to reach the wall plates and since you are hooking up 6 speakers, you will need 24 banana plugs ( 4 per wire ). Then sit back and enjoy. How are you hooking up your sub?

Thanks for your help. Is there a certain gauge speaker wire? From what I have read on here it should be 24 to 14 gauge, is that correct? And is there a certain type or brand of wire that I should get? On the banana plugs, does it matter which brand? Or will anything do?

16 guage will probably be fine, unless you have $5-$10K worth of In-Walls. (actually, it would still be fine with that too! )

How do you tell if it is oxygen free? The store near me sells the Monster THX Standard 16 gauge speeaker wire, 30 feet for $15.00, will that work? The labeling says nothing about oxygen.

Thanks again......

Monster is fine, since you are only going from the reciever to the wall plate 30 feet should be more than enough.

Don't get Monster banana plugs thou they are way overprice for 2 pairs in a pack

Moe- Thanks for your help. And I wont buy Monster banana plus, I try to avoid buying Monster products at all costs because I think they are a marketing gimmick company, big rip off.
