Question Sex and the City film's opening gross?

I'm sure there's a fanbase for this movie out there. I just don't know how many come here to the forums. So the questions are, how much will it make this weekend? What will be number 1? Are you going to see this movie?

Personally I think the Strangers look better.

$24,000,000. I wanted to say $18,000,000 but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Definately won't see this movie. I think this movie will do better in the home/rental market than the box office. I'll be surprised if it clears the $65,000,000 it was budgeted for.

I thought this title had something to do with seeing Kim Katrall naked again.

*shudder*

I wouldn't be surprised to see Indy and Iron Man finish on top of this. But I'm sure there are a lot of women that are going to see this.

This movie is going to surprise a lot of people. I put in $60-70 as the wildcard, but my gut feeling is $45m and having legs, no pun intended, pushing well past $100m. The only thing really hurting it is the R rating as that keeps out all the young girls showing interest. Otherwise the main demo is the older female pop that has zero movies out there for it.

Of course I may be the only hetro male wanting to go and without a date even. The series rocked and the movie is getting great reviews. If you so called males would look past the "it's for chicks" mantra you would notice that the series is filled with a lot of hot naked women. Sounds like a guy movie to me.

Oh and it is actually well written and funny to boot.

'Sex In The City' is going to do very well at the box office. I have only seen a couple of episodes and can say that Sarah Jessica Parker is just as annoying on TV as she is on film. Therefore, I will not be seeing this. BUT, with spring in the air (which increases the date ratio exponentially), the incredibly ridiculous fan base associated to the TV series (it's all I would hear about the following day at work from EVERY female in the building), and the fact that it is the first really hyped girl movie in a few years... it's going to catch a lot of analysts off-guard. Women/girls will be going to see this IN DROVES!!! If there is ever going to be the perfect opportunity for a girls night out, it will be during the first few weeks that 'Sex In The City' is in theatres.

As for the R rating? Mothers who watched and bonded over the TV series with their daughters will gladly allow them to see it with them. After all, an R rating only means Restricted if an adult over the age of 18 isn't present. If you go to see it in theatres, don't be surprised if there are at least a dozen "underage" girls in the theatre with you.

The grossest part of the movie is the stars (except Kirsten Davis).
Horrible play on words, I know.

I voted LESS than 20 million Probably the most annoying film of the Summer, and NOT a good choice for a date flick However, I am sure that the "Cosmo" ladies will rush to see it. Anyone looking foward to this in Blu? Thanks Jason!

That's what she said!

20-30 Million. None of my money though. What a piece o' crap show it was. Now all the people involved need a paycheck becuase they cannot get anymore good work so let's put together a movie that will basically be 3 episodes thrown together and wait for the checks.

I picked $30-$40 million.

There's a lot of women (and their whipped husbands/boyfriends) as well as gay men who will go see this.

It just takes one group of well connected chicks to like a movie like this.

They will push this movie over the freakin top if it is HALF way decent.

Look what they did to Titanic??

I just heard a couple of girls talking about how the main character alone has over 80 outfit changes....I swear they were getting wet.

No no no...this is going to be explosive.

Very nice quotes from Variety.com:

"At a series of ArcLight "Sex and the City" parties in Hollywood, moviegoers get two Cosmos or martinis, appetizers and a "Sex and the City" fedora and martini glass, along with admission to the movie, for a $60 ducat; the ArcLight added party screenings due to demand. Other fans are planning private pilgrimages to the multiplex to watch their favorite Gotham galpals cavort on the bigscreen." How nice!:

"However, there's no escaping the fact that the movie is a chick flick with strong appeal among an older femme demo but questionable interest among others. All the magazine coverage in the world -- 63 pages in the May 23 edition of Entertainment Weekly alone -- and "Sex and the City" TV marathons haven't really moved the needle among men, many of whom suggest they'd rather be shot than sit through the movie." Ohhh, really? What gives them THAT idea?

"The movie opens in the U.K. and France today and will unspool domestically in midnight screenings Thursday."

OK guys...Lets roll with this! Who is in for a 12:01 AM showing?

Opening gross... gross is right.. I can't stand that show.
HATED the series, HATE the actresses, and I am planning to avoid the movie like a plague!

But I think there are enough middle-aged housewives that want to see it that it should make at least $40 mil... imo
