Default People familiar with older Marantz receivers?

I have an SR-5300... I haven't cared so far about the lack of HDMI because I've only had the two speakers plus sub however that will be getting rectified with three more speakers shortly, which means I will have to choose between 2.0 good sound or 5.1 DVD quality sound on my blu-rays. I don't want to choose!

Originally I was going to get a standalone player with analog outs and internal decoding of everything including DTS-MA, however they have not come out as soon as expected and they are turning out to be much more expensive than expected (see Panasonic BD50).

While I'm still keeping that option open for now, I want to start considering the other option, which is replacing the receiver and continuing to use the PS3. I don't want to take any kind of real hit on sound quality, however. I do have a NAD C320BEE integrated stereo amp that I could use for the two main speakers (it has better quality sound than the Marantz receiver, I use it on my computer at the moment) but I don't want the others to sound bad or anything.

So in other words I'd be looking for a receiver that doesn't sound any worse than the -5300. And of course I'm looking for a decent price, if it's too expensive I might as well get the pricey standalone player. Obviously I will listen to the options I get, I just want to narrow things down before running around listening to every sub-$700 receiver out there.

Obviously the SR-5002 is the newest version of that series... but with improvements how would the lower ones sound, especially with not having to power the two main speakers leaving lots of power for the rest? Any other options?

Please note Onkyo is NOT an option - I live in Canada, their prices are double here (605 is like $700) and they won't warranty them if I cross the border to buy it. The one other condition is it has to have pre-outs at least for the main speakers.

Thanks for any help....
