Default Retail price SONY SS = Huge Discount price POLK R

So CC website is having a 10% online coupon special & I was all ready to pull the trigger on the Sony SSF7000 (fronts), SSF5000 (sides), SSCN5000 (center), SAW3000 (sub)

But then noticed that the POLK R50, wave 30 sides, CS1 & sub, which retails for nearly double the above Sony prices, can be had online for a huge discount & basically what I would be paying for the Sony pieces above at discounted retail prices.

2 questions:

1. Is this Polk line of speakers hands down better and a no brainer for the discounts and better quality/performer than the Sony set??

2. For my sides surround speakers, would I be better going with a smaller tower pair to compliment my front tower pair, for instance the SSF5000 & SSF7000 or do you guys like the smaller book shelf types for sides??

What are you waiting for....go grab them.

Polk's are miles ahead of Sony when it comes to speakers also Polk comes with a 5 year warranty.

I agree. If you can get them at a good price, Polk is the better choice.

Nice - pleasure as always crack. I am just a couple more mouse clicks away. I am still leaning towards the Sony 820. I actually saw one at circuit city and it is the goods. According to the logos on the unit and what it states on the box, it is the first truly compatible BR disc receiver from them in this price range; regardless of the audio format. As far as the Onkyo's go, the only one that will physically fit in my cabinet case is the 605.

That was my impression. Looks like the way the Polks market it, is that I would go with either the monitor 30 or 40 bookshelf speakers for this setup. I think there are a couple choices on the sub. THe CS1 is bout as big as my case is going to fit.

subwoofer wise, you might even consider:

JBL Venue Series SUB12 12-Inch 500-Watt Subwoofer

Acoustech H-100 Cinema Series 500-Watt Front-Firing Subwoofer

Well i have to say i am very impressed with my Sony speakers! I have SCN5000 center and the ssf-6000 fronts and they blow me away. My neighbor has polk speakers and he was blown away with the quality as well, he said if he had to get speakers again he would take a seriously hard look at the sony's! The quality of their products have improved dramatically! I got the ssf-6000's for $114.95 for the pair!! what a freakin deal! You need to hear the sony's before you make a decision!

The Polk line is hands down better, and a no brainer -even without the Polk discounts!!!! I generally use Bi or Dipoles for my sides and they are generally wall mounted/bookshelf sized - you get a more diffuse (translate as "natural") sound field from those types of speakers in rear/side applications.
