Default Fox stop region coding

Region coding there Blu Ray discs is a slap in the face to the consumers.
Also Lionsgate, sometime sony do it. It is a crappy thing to do

I think Disney has come over to the good side of the consumers with the release of Narnia to being region free

Please use the search function for exhaustive explanations of the economics behind region coding

Long story short:

Different companies own different movies in different areas, and many international studio film divisions are operated as seperate companies. Therefore they do not want to rob Fox Australia of their domestic profits for example. So to protect those regional rights, coding is used.

Disney and Sony region code all new releases, but not catalog titles unless they don't own it in the majority of places

Lionsgate and New Line do not operate outside of North America, therefore many of their titles (in NL's case ALL) are coded.
