Default XPS M1530 bluray drive issues

Why do some movies play on the bluray drive that is on the dell xps m1530? it is the matsashita BD drive.

Some movies play and others dont at all. It loads and just when you think the pop up menu is supposed to come - nothing. Just a blank screen.

And the movies that do play - they skip. All of them. I thought ti may hav been the disc but its happenieng with every movie that plays - it must be the drive, right?

It more than likely is. However Blu-ray is also software based too. A couple of things, are you using Dell's Power DVD version? Also, have you checked to make sure your drive is using the latest firmware? You can go to.. support.dell.com and punch in your service tag and it will pull up any updates needed for that drive - should be listed under cd/dvd/drives section. If there are any updates, install them.

If you are using Dell's power DVD, try removing it and using the trial version of Power DVD to see if that fixes your issue.

If none of these fix your issue, it sounds like a drive issue. What are the specs of your laptop? Should be decent since it is an XPS.

PowerDVD plays blus. I believe that is what dell is using. It's the back end for media direct. Media direct is a dell software app that pretty much starts 3rd party apps like PowerDVD.

there is a trial version of ultra and it does play bluray.

now the dam dell guy says they dont have ultra in stock. They never had that. they have a powerdvd 8.1 universal? i dont see this listed on cyberlinks website.

he said it will play blurays. I explained powerdvd 8 does NOT suppoort bluray playback..but he said he is sending me 8.1 which DOES play it.

Do you guys knwo anythign about this? is this a patch for powerdvd 8 that basically is the same as ultra allowing it to play and have same features as ultra?

Not sure. If it plays it, try it along with your new drive and see what happens.
