Question PS3 Fails to play HD content midstream

I am using a PS3 to play back HD content I record with my iMac and HDHomerun HD tuners using EyeTV. The files are saved on my iMac as MPEG-2 and are shared to my network. The iMac and PS3 are connected to D-Link 2205 Gigabit switches and all wiring is cat 5e. The iMac is 1000/100/10 and it is my understanding that the PS3 is the same. I should only need 100 Mbit to stream a single HD video at a time so the 1000 is overkill. The PS3 finds the iMac share ok and plays the video ok but it suddenly breaks midstream with an error about bad stream or end of stream? (Did not write it down.) At this point I am stuck and have to press the back button on the PS3. If I play again I can fast forward past this trouble spot and play ok but it will crash at another location later on. The files play ok on the iMac. What is the problem? Is there a setting on my iMac or PS3 I could use to get around this?

TIA...

Doesn't the PS3 have a limit to how large a file it will play? I believe it's 2 or 4 GB. I think there is a workaround for that limit when streaming but the exact answer is eluding me at the moment.

Due to the PS3's OS being on FAT-32, the limit is 4gb.

Does the 4GB limit apply to files on a remote machine/network share? I am simply browsing the shared files and playing a file which happens to be 5GB.

It looks like some file types larger than 4 GB can't be streamed to the PS3, depending upon what software you're running. But some have gotten it to work. Check this thread for more complete information:

ive got 15gb video files on my ps3...

the file size limit is for external drives not the internal ps3 drive

i havent had a problem with streaming large files either on my new computer, but with my previous comp i did get that same error and that computer was rather slow... i dont know the specs of an imac but i wonder if maybe thats the reason?
